Lhasa! Dude wheres my oxygen? Flew Shanghai to Chongqing late thursday night, then to Lhasa yesterday morning. On an A330. Lhasa is not exactly a quaint small town. Or low. Ate something dodgy last night, either too many yak butter cookies or some nasty Tibetan Chang, and that combined with the 0->3600m in a day, combined with not being adjusted to +10 time zones yet made last night pretty terrible. But we've been wandering around Lhasa a bit, trying to stock up on food and figure out the chinese word for white gas (doesn't exist). The street markets are pretty crazy, selling everything from food to fabric to fruit to pots to North Face jackets to fresh killed yak carcasses. Those don't smell so good, especially with a queasy stomach. Chinese military is everywhere patrolling the street, but looks like mostly for show. Drivers are still crazy, but no worse than Shanghai, and they're really good at going onto the other side of the road to avoid the people walking down the middle of it. Here for two more nights, then up to BC for a bonus 1000m up.

Shanghai! Dude where's my yesterday? Found Andrew, epic ride through the city, nap time, then shuffling gear at his place. I've got a whole lot more room now that I got rid of the two pairs of plastic boots I brought over for him. Flight to Chongqing tonight, Lhasa in the morning.

Note

or not. no Tibet entry permits yet. apparently three day delivery here means 'approximately three days'. kapo is not pleased. so another night in shanghai. but we wandered around the fiesta a bit, went through the trippiest subway ever, and ate some painfully spicy clams washed down with deep fried pumpkin.

easy run up and around windy ridge, which as advertised, was impressively windy today. also think we tired out Carol this week.

and as seems to be the popular trend today, I dropped an ice screw on my bare foot while packing, though it just knicked off a chunk of my heel instead of taking a full core sample, so nothing too bad.

Note

Heading down to Reno tonight for the early flight out in the morning, RNO -> Salt Lake -> Narita -> Shanghai. Then Wednesday going Shanghai -> XXX -> XXX -> Lhasa. Still not sure of the XXXs yet, nor could I spell them if I was. Couple days in Lhasa, then out to Kaluxung. Lots of days there acclimitizing on the mt and maybe caching gear up high, then a two/three day climb for both summits. Back to Lhasa and a dodgy train back to Shanghai by the 7th in time for the flight to GLOF, where I will score +5 altitude acclimitization advantage, and -10 exhaustion / weight loss.
