Note
Lhasa! Dude wheres my oxygen? Flew Shanghai to Chongqing late thursday night, then to Lhasa yesterday morning. On an A330. Lhasa is not exactly a quaint small town. Or low. Ate something dodgy last night, either too many yak butter cookies or some nasty Tibetan Chang, and that combined with the 0->3600m in a day, combined with not being adjusted to +10 time zones yet made last night pretty terrible. But we've been wandering around Lhasa a bit, trying to stock up on food and figure out the chinese word for white gas (doesn't exist). The street markets are pretty crazy, selling everything from food to fabric to fruit to pots to North Face jackets to fresh killed yak carcasses. Those don't smell so good, especially with a queasy stomach. Chinese military is everywhere patrolling the street, but looks like mostly for show. Drivers are still crazy, but no worse than Shanghai, and they're really good at going onto the other side of the road to avoid the people walking down the middle of it. Here for two more nights, then up to BC for a bonus 1000m up.
