orienteering 1:00:00 [2] *** 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Sprint courses for next month at Northstar with Jonas. Lots of critique to the courses and to the map. Plus they just cut down a huge swath of forest (yesterday) in the middle of the map and burned it. Jerks. I just mapped that.

trued the wheels, then an easy lap around Northwoods to make sure it all still worked.

Boca. Forgot that I had broken the pole strap on Tuesday, so I got another day with the loose grip. But the bad shoulder felt ok, and I could put almost full weight onto it for the dp, so it was actually a pretty good workout.

mtn bike 1:35:50 intensity: (3:03 @0) + (27:54 @1) + (31:34 @2) + (18:38 @3) + (14:41 @4) 9.04 mi (5.7 mph) +309m

ride above Coldstream Valley on some crazy singletrack. pretty slow going, partly because it was a new area and I was trying to be safe on the shoulder, and partly because I was way out of my league on a few parts of this trail. narrow blind corners through the scrub, steep uphill switchbacks, and some pretty crazy exposure. found a junked snowmobile in the woods, and had to stop for a few minutes while Jonas disassembled it to salvage some parts he needed. got stuck on the wrong side of a freight train that was coming down the pass, then determined that we can't run as fast as its going. uphill we'd probably have a chance though.

mapping 1:00:00 [1] ***

A solid seven hours at Northstar, mostly doing the village. The good news is the battery lasted that long, though I did have the gps off for most of it. The bad news is the ghettocad build I made this morning had a couple bugs I didn't find until I got over there, which made editing a few things mostly impossible. oops. At least there was a serious fiesta going on there today, so they were blasting block rocking beats all over the mountain. Don't think I've ever gotten so psyched to just be mapping.

at Boca, dp and then no poles. Hot and super dry. I could do a mostly normal dp for the first half of the dp, just not putting a lot of strength into it. Then I broke the pole strap on the good arm, which balanced things out (towards the slow end).

So the shoulder has been feeling mostly ok during the day for the last couple days. I got the gallon of milk over my head and held it there this morning, but only by going to the side, I'm still a long ways from doing it straight out front. And still haven't slept through the night in three weeks, I wake up if I even think about rolling onto that side. It wasn't too bad last week because I could watch WOC all night, but this week I think its just gonna get annoying.

run race 29:46 intensity: (10 @0) + (8 @1) + (18 @2) + (1:22 @3) + (26:27 @4) + (1:21 @5) 3.99 mi (7:28 / mi) +53m 7:10 / mi
ahr:159 max:172

Truckee Running Club trail race at Martis Creek, which is basically the big field on the way to Northstar. Mostly flat and clean dirt trails, but also out in the sun and wind, and still really dry. Felt ok for most of it, the shoulder started to hurt towards the end, but nothing too bad. Finished 10th / 24, six minutes back.

run warm up/down 16:24 intensity: (19 @2) + (10:48 @3) + (5:17 @4) 1.49 mi (11:00 / mi) +22m 10:31 / mi

Down to the lake, up Donner pass, around Royal Gorge, back down through town, and home up Alder Creek. Legs felt awesome today, even on the last hill up to home, but I guess two rest days and a lot of squash soup will do that.
