Barebones sprint in downtown Whistler. Pretty sweet area, all buildings and streets with big walkways and narrow passages between them. Lots of people out, even early in the morning, so jumping out of the dark alleys into the main street involved some fairly narrow misses. Made lots of mistakes, both in route choice and in execution. I think I'm too used to big simplification of forest maps, so when I have to pay attention to the little uncrossable corridors I get really confused. Had an awesome 90 degree parallel error coming out of the corner of one building where it matched the other direction fairly closely, so I lost a full 1:30 there in hilarious confusion.

This one is worthy of a qr. Check out my awesome route to 18.

Barebones long at Long Lake. Super tired and dehydrated even before the start, which I was pretty much expecting after yesteraday (still totally worth it). The map was of the nordic area right next to Whistler, so lots of big ski trails wrapping around, and then a whole network of little singletrack mt bike trails (and some platform bridges). The woods were thick though, so navigation was a lot of roundabout trail legs. Map exchange halfway through, by then I was totally dead, and crawled my way around the second half.

hiking 2:00:00 [3] 8.2 mi (14:38 / mi) +1000m 10:37 / mi

Climbed up Mt Rohr, somewhere between Kamloops and Whistler. Parked halfway up a dodgy fire road, then hiked the rest until it gave up and turned into a trail. Lots of blowdown and streams flooding the trail, then lots of big snow patches higher up. Managed to follow it until treeline though, then climbed up a steep waterfall/rockslide into the upper valley. All still snow up there, so an long slog up the valley snowfield to the peak itself. Went up the west face/ridge, which was super steep in places, but the snow was warm and soft so no trouble with the crampons and axe. Didn't hang out too long on top since my feet were soaking wet and cold (crampons + running shoes), but dropped down off the summit on the back side and looped around since it was a lot gentler grade. Easy down the snowfield valley, fighting the mosquitos and blackflies, and back out to the car with plenty of daylight to spare.

sort of route.

Sage middle distance. Not so good of a race. The map just didn't make sense to me at all, so I ran around in circles a lot. Had a moose run through the start triangle just before I started though.

roller ski 1:19:19 intensity: (24 @1) + (3:11 @2) + (23:27 @3) + (52:17 @4) 20.56 km (3:52 / km) +22m 3:50 / km

The middle finished early, so I went into town and skiied along the bike path on the river, which was dead flat (except for a big metal bridge of death early on). Mostly dp for the first half, then skate.

Also I think I've figured out the problem with the skis, my boots are so big that my heal sits almost on top of the back wheel, so if I put any weight at all on it (or even centered on the foot), its pushing way behind the center of rotation of the ski, so it turns in the wrong direction.

Sage sprint on the Thompson River Univ campus. All urban building-ish stuff, but some good quick route choice and lots of legs. One big mistake where I couldn't tell which side of an uncrossable wall/building combination the control was on, so it took three tries to get there. But still fun. And sunny for the first day in a while.
