Note

new house! (condo actually). smaller than what I've got now, but 300ft higher, and $300 cheaper, which I'm pretty sure means +600 stat increase. also its right at the downhill area. not saying I can spit off the deck onto a groomed trail, but I could definitely javelin a busted ski onto one.

You'd think this might get old by now. But it doesn't.
Had to go down to Reno this afternoon (to pick up the gps ipad), so I drove over via the Mt Rose pass and stopped at the top for a little ski through the fields. Conditions weren't exactliy great, the end of the storm was just blowing through, so it was socked in with fog and wicked windy.

hiking 2:00:00 [3] 14.0 mi (8:34 / mi) +1000m 7:01 / mi

Went over into Hetch Hetchy and hiked up Smith Mt (7750'). Low oak scrub down at the bottom, a lot like Sequoia or even LA, then pine forest up on top. A lot of it burned a couple years ago, so it was all charred toothpicks and underbrush. The trail went up the sunny side of the mountain, so the snow was all gone except for the very top, which was exciting in a running-shoe-on-cornsnow sortof way. Warm and sunny, so I spent a while up on top hanging with the locals, who would have been adorable except for the part where he was actively devouring my pack. Then he gave up and just tried to pull it home.

Tioga Pass through yosemite was still closed this weekend, but they just opened up Sonora Pass (next one north), so I drove home that way. Never been over that one before, and it wins over Tioga easily for being windy and crazy and steep.

6hrs rt. pics.
