yea finally sunshine. have been feeling kinda sick this week (ear infection?), I think the ratio of skiing:sleep last week was a bit off. so I've been lying low for the last couple days of wet crappy snowy weather. but today was nice and I was getting antsy.

I won a pair of Rossi BC 70 skis at a race this winter, which are basically medium-wide heavy fishscales, and the REI dividend just bought me boots and bindings for them, so I went out to see if I could break them. the snow was super soft and slushy, as it was noon and 70 degrees out, but I guess it was still better than trying to go for a skate. also the part where I can't tele turn on skate skis - apparently it has nothing to do with the skate skis.

still snowing and gross. run around Prosser with Donatas and Jack. mostly on clear roads, with a little detour through the woods to avoid some waist deep postholing.

Note

snowing all day, but not really enough to brag about, just to make a mess. spent most of the day inside working, then party at Donatas (its his birthday too).

crust ski up and around TD. not bad in most places, a little soft through some of the pine trees, but some sweet turns down the front of the mt.

up until 4 last night trying to take pictures of saturn (mildly successfully). oddly enough that one was one of the best and I took it handheld (the lens has an active stabilizer). so I think my problem at the moment seems to be with the focus, I don't have precise enough control over the ring. anyway thats not so conducive to getting up at 7 to go crust ski, so I think I need a nap now.

skate ski 2:20:06 intensity: (6:40 @1) + (53:37 @2) + (1:16:26 @3) + (3:23 @4) 25.87 km (5:25 / km)

so I think thats it for the grooming this year. they broke their last groomer last night (stripped all the tires), so didn't anything done for today. but the snow was still frozen, so I went on an epic crust tour. did a lap up and down the valley, then ran into Steve Miller who was headed up to the head of the valley and out the top, so I tagged along. Took off the skis and walked straight up for the super steep part (km 19), then we had some sweet crust turns all the way down the ridgeline.
