hiking 2:00:00 [2] 21.0 mi (5:43 / mi)
Olancha peak (12k'). Time to start training for next weekend, so I went up to get my altitude on. No idea what the conditions were going to be, nobody's been over the eastern crest this far south yet. It looked dry from the trailhead, so I left most of the toys in the car, and just brought the axe in case there was snow on the other side (there wasn't). A six mile slog from the trailhead at 6k up to the sierra crest at about 10k, then north on the PCT for a few miles before another 2k of scree and a dodgy summit block to the summit. Saw no one all day. 11hrs.
While I was hiking my car somehow filled with ants (the bitey kind) which made the drive back pretty exciting.
Also I bought some random guy $10 of gas to get home tonight, which you'd think would have earned me enough karma to magically kill all the ants, but it just seemed to make them madder.
