orienteering 1:29:00 [3] 9.0 km (9:53 / km)

Blue at SDO's Mt Laguna 2-day meet. Nice terrain, fairly open Jeffery Pine forest, sort of like Mt Pinos only flatter. The course was ok, the first half was through some good forest, but on the second half the legs were essentially: run 500m across an open meadow, climb 5 contours to the top of the hill, punch, go down 5 contours to the meadow, repeat. It got old after a couple legs. I did run through a herd of cows in one of the meadows, and noted that they were not in fact facing north, but rather all turning to stare me down as I ran by, which was sort of creepy.

orienteering 1:29:00 [2] 4.0 km (22:15 / km)

Memory-o at the Topanga LAOC local meet. Pretty fun with some long legs (1k+), but mostly on trails so you just had to memorize the junctions. Except that the map is crap and the junctions aren't there, or there are extras. And then the 1.5k leg in the middle where the control was hidden. Wandered around for a bit, didn't want to run back to the previous one to look at the map (since it was 1.5k away and I didn't think I could do it backwards anyway) so I ran back to the start. Whined a little bit there, looked at the map, and ran back out. I was in the right spot, it was just buried up the reentrant behind a rock "so the hikers wouldn't steal it". Probably blew 25 mins on that leg, and ran maybe 6-7 km for the whole course.

run (control pickup) 20:00 [1] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

lets see how little of the poisonous vegetation we can touch...
