run race 1:38:00 [4] 8.0 mi (12:15 / mi) +1219m 8:19 / mi

Mt Baldy trail run. Had an awesome race today! I felt great the whole way up (well as great as you can after going from sea level to 10k in under three hours). The first 5 miles up the access road was good, and seemed like it went by much faster than previous years. Same with the next mile up the ski trails. By the time I got to mile 7 (singletrack on the ridgeline) I decided I really was having a good race, mostly because there weren't many people around. Usually there are packs of people forming on the single track where slow people get caught, but it was thin enough that it wasn't a problem this year. Mile 8 is a half-mile of almost-flat-occasionally-downhill where you skirt around another shallow peak, then a half mile +1000ft climb to the summit of Baldy. I've never gotten to the almost-flat part and felt good before, but this year I was able to run pretty hard for the whole thing, which felt really good. And then the last half mile was just misery, but duh. Knocked 8 mins off last year, not sure of the placing yet. Good company by Clare and Harvey from LAOC too.

hiking 1:00:00 [2] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

From the summit back down to the top of the lift. Went for a little side trip up Mt Harwood (the shallow peak we ran around) just because it was so close. Found Harvey halfway down and stopped under a bush to wait for Clare.
