hiking 4:00:00 [3] 28.2 mi (8:31 / mi) +2800m 6:30 / mi

Theres a hike in the San Gorgonio range called the 9-peaks traverse, which has roughly the same reputation and badasstitude as the Presi Traverse in the whites. You basically climb 5000 ft straight up from the parking lot, then go along the ridge knocking off all the peaks (while picking up another 4000ft of climb), then destroy your knees on the 6000ft descent. But there's actually 10 peaks on the ridge, everyone just always skips one (Dobbs), because its a few hundred extra feet down. Thats not fair, so I hit that one as well. A bit over 28 miles, 9200' of climb, 14 hours, 13 liters of water. Not too many good pictures, as everything in SoCal always just look brown. Saw a forest fire start up a couple ridges over. map and photos

so it actually rained this morning. not real rain that would pass as rain in any other part of the country, but there was definitely water falling from the sky. thats two months ahead of schedule...

found a hairline crack in the back of the frame on the right ski (by the brake). not bad enough to make anything fall off yet, but I suppose I should replace the frames before the winter rolls around. Its been squeeking for a little while, I guess thats why.

hiking 4:00:00 [3] 18.0 mi (13:20 / mi)

Dayhike from Mineral King in Sequoia. On the trail through a high grass valley up to Farewell Gap, then up some crappy softball sized scree to Vandever Mt (windy), back down and across more crappy scree to Bullfrog Lakes (in the right notch), up the west ridge of Florence (refrigerator sized scree), down the other side to Franklin Pass, and back down the trail. Sunny but cold, I did most of it in a pile jacket. Saw a million marmot, a zillion deer, a pair of coyotes, parts of a plane?, and had this guy pop his head out about 15 feet from the trail. about 12 hours car to car. map and photos.
