Orienteering race 6:30:35 [5] 18.6 mi (21:00 / mi)

Hudson Highlander XII

Hoggencamp, then trail run on Rockhouse, then Pole Brook, Sebago.

I found the first O section to be very tough due to the map, long legs, and few trail options. Had some trouble with #2, probably losing 10 minutes or so. I was tired enough by the end of it that I walked most of the trail run. Also missed the streamers at a 90 degree turn and ended up going the wrong way for a while. Encountered two guys (Sergei and Chris?) coming up from the wrong way after having gone all the way to the road. Probably added a couple hundred meters for me. Started feeling a bit better for the 2nd O section and hooked up with Dave L., Glen, and Chris. We were together for the rest of the time.

Even though I finished with plenty of time to spare, I felt like it was a pretty tough highlander. Seems like there are usually more controls with some trail options. The heat probably contributed and maybe I'm just not able to do long races as easily as before. I was happy with the way my new bifocals worked. I was also wearing some new Thorlo socks and I had no feet issues, which is rare lately.

Hashing 1:30:00 [2] 5.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

Hash set by Joe around Putnam Park. A-A from John and Kim. Took it very easy cause of the highlander.

Couple of miles around the school complex, mix of trails, fields, and sidewalk. Track was closed because it was just painted.
