Orienteering (Competition) 1:13:20 [4] 6.45 km (11:22 / km)
spiked:10/12c

Day 2 of the Troll Cup at Mount Norwottuck/The Notch, MA. Started 1:03min behind Daniel Schaulblin, approximately 15min behind the leaders. I saw but didn't catch Daniel. I had some trouble early but caught a few people by using the trails. I ran alone a lot and it was satisfying. See the Split List.

Running (Street & Trail) 16:53 [3] 2.4 mi (7:02 / mi)

In Washington, D.C., from 14th & Independence Ave. to the Lincoln Memorial, around the reflecting pool and back via the Washington Monument. Construction detoured me around the WWII memorial site. Coming back as I approached my office building police were in the way and yelled "runner" to one another. They were in the process of arresting IMF protesters and made me go around the intersection to get to my building.

Running (Street & Trail) 28:09 [2] 3.5 mi (8:03 / mi)

Roads and Trails around Northridge; Bowie, MD. Running in the dark with a light drizzle from the remants of hurricane Isador, I used my night light. The light was unusual. I'll usually just run in the dark but the light let me use the very dark trails. The drizzle seemed like falling snow. I scared lots of animals including rabbits, ducks, geese, and two beavers on the grass at the lake. One of several frogs nearly jumped onto my stomach.

Running (Street & Trail) 1:00:38 [3] 8.45 mi (7:11 / mi)

In Ft. Collins, CO. From Prospect Rd. via the Spring Creek Trail to just past Cottonwood Glen Park, just below the Horsetooth Resevoir, south of the old Aggies "A" on the foothill overlooking town; and back. The very pleasant trail followed its namesake creek upstream through the heart of the city. I turned around at 1:00:09 and ran back faster. Taking a wrong turn on the way back I added on a little, making the return trip longer than the outgoing. The trail was mostly concrete and unprotected from sun and wind. Fortunately for me, it was in the upper 50's or very low 60's with occasional sprinkling rain. I had to guess the distance. Given yesterday's experience, the estimate was conservative.

Weights (Universal Machine) 10:00 [3]

Push-ups, situps, and a round of the Universal machine in the hotel.

Running (Track) 1:01:56 [5] 12.95 km (4:47 / km)

In Ft. Collins, CO at the Colorado State University Track. I warmed-up running to the track from Prospect Rd., and adding a few laps. Afterward, I did 4x1500m with a 650m slow jog in-between. I was either just tired, weighed down by my heavier running shoes, not running well because I was running alone or suffering the approximate mile high altitude. My splits were: 5:26 (approximate due to mis-timing), 5:35, 5:36, 5:31. These were almost 20 seconds slower than the previous week. Warm-down through the CSU campus back to the hotel.

Weights (Universal) 10:00 [4]

Push-ups, situps, and a round of the Universal machine in the hotel.
