Hiking (Trail) 11:06 [3] 0.67 mi (16:34 / mi)
slept:7.0 (injured)

Clear Lake Scout Reservation, NY. Here for the Billygoat race, I knew I couldn't run due to my knee however I was feeling confident that I'd be able to walk the course a bit. Since Peggy was racing, I had to mak sure Max was situated in child care before I could go and I missed the walk to the start. Somewhat blindly, I rushed along the road in the general direction that everyone had gone and stopped to ask a few people where to go. Jim Eagleton came along and passed me. Eventually, I found my way to the start with a few minutes to spare.

The Billygoat at Clear Lake Scout Reservation, NY. As everyone started off (most were running), I walked with some others. The thrill of the mass start crowd and the warm-up walk made it easier for me to forget about my knee but I kept to a brisk walk. Francis Hogle was nearby for a while but after #2, I was on my own. I walked from the start to controls, 1, 2, 10, 9, 8, 13(?), 22, 23, 24 and the finish. Along the way I saw the lead runners a couple of times. At one point, I saw a crowd that I might have been with if I hadn't been injured. Ted Good was leading them though people were fanning out as he unknowingly ran toward a cliff to control #9 below. When I left everyone after #8, I had trouble reading the stone walls on the way #13(?). I stopped in the right area. Just after I did, the lead runners came into the area and stopped too. I figured out where to go and soon after, the lead runners figured it out too (probably on their own) but it was nice to know that we all had difficulty in that area. It was a nice day. I did okay walking and enjoyed it. I had found it difficult to read the detailed map and walk through the terrain--I'm sure the runners had a hard time too. It did get easier for me which is part of why I went out--to stay in touch while I get better. By the end of this, my knee felt about the same as it did when I started.
