Running 2:50:00 [3] 12.5 mi (13:36 / mi)
ahr:146 max:157 shoes: Newer Salomons

Annual Mad March Hare Hash. Ran from home to the start at John Read Middle School, about 4.5 miles, then hash started back north along the Reeves Bigger trail, through Gallows Hill, then Limekiln. Mostly trails, some bushwhacking, a bit of roads. Fun hash, plus good to see the folks who moved to Boston again.

Trail building, new Aspetuck Valley Trail running south from Huntington. Pretty much finished up the section of trail we started on yesterday.

Hiking 4:00:00 [2]

Trail building, new Aspetuck Valley Trail in the Centennial Watershed State Forest (former water company land). A bit chilly at first, with snow for about an hour before we started. George and Lyn came down to help out (thanks!), plus a few other volunteers.

Well, this confirmed what I suspected, i.e., my legs aren't in shape for two days of racing. Felt like I was putting in the effort, but couldn't keep up much of a pace. And only once, for a brief moment, did my HR even get as high as 90%. Mostly I was struggling to keep it above 85%. With one exception route choice was ok, but my brain kept wanting to go AWOL, so execution could have been cleaner. The one dopey route choice was where I misread a nasty pricker symbol on the map for the kinder, gentler undergrowth symbol, and so spent some time with Brer Rabbit in the briar patch. But otherwise ok, and the course was fun.
