Orienteering race 1:17:40 [3] *** 8.02 km (9:41 / km) +280m 8:15 / km
spiked:15/18c

Twin Boulders East, Red course. 21st place, but 3rd M40. Not too bad navigationally, about three smallish errors near the controls. But evidentally not moving very fast. But it's my first exercise since arriving here at altitude.

Note

Drove from Iowa to Laramie. 2500 miles behind the wheel since Saturday.

Note

US Canoe-O Champs, and I didn't have to do anything athletic beyod climbing a tree to watch people paddling around at various places in the delta. The guy who won volunteered to pick up all the controls!

Then I drove to Iowa.

Canoeing 2:45:00 [2]

Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife Area (WI), this was actually course setting, so it was fairly vigorous paddling interspersed with stopping to pound in control stakes, hang control markers, make last-minute map adjustments, etc. And there was a little bit of travel on foot as well, to check out one land route that I suspected that a lot of teams would use (and they did!).

Mapping 7:47:00 [1]

Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife Area (WI), mapping for US Canoe-O Champs. Mostly from the boat, although I did get out a few times to check out the passability of critical land sections. Vigorous paddling here and there, but mostly going slow enough to map.

Canoeing 2:36:28 [2]

Paddling around Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife Area (WI) in a 16-ft C1 borrowed from Everett Crozier. Checking out whether the place is suitable for canoe-O. Verdict: definitely!
