Orienteering race 2:00:00 [5] 19.0 km (6:19 / km)
NOL Long.
Awesome start with really short sharp controls combined with having everybody around. Super fun. Had a few small misses but managed to nail one later on in the first loop which a lot of others stopped on and so came through the changover first.
With a few others through the next part and was happy enough with the route choice chosen by most on the first long leg so just went along with it.
Felt like I was orienteering really well through the next section of splitting in the rock and felt like I had gotten in to a good rythm with Craney and Brian not long after that. Led through the few short control before the long leg but had a few small misses there. Mostly in the circle for 10 I think?
But then completely lost it on the real long leg coming back. Couldnt find an option I was happy with and hadnt made up my mind when I got there, plus I got completely thrown by all the others bolting down the road and ended up changing my mind multiple times. Lost over a minute on this leg just by being indecisive.
But manages to finish well after that and felt strong until the end. Sufficiently destroyed afterwards though.
Obviously happy with the end result. First NOL placing since Easter in WA, and first one as a senior. Stoked! Always nice to have a good reassuring start to the year!
Plus awesome stuff from the stingers today, everybody who started finished!
