Orienteering 1:35:59 [3] *** 11.2 km (8:34 / km)
ahr:157 spiked:19/21c shoes: Low Top O-spikes

Had a good clean run. Errors were transplanting myself from 8 to 9 and proceeding towards 10 (4 min), and on the final approach to 12, I looked at the nearby #3 circle and navigated back over there. My results were about the same place in the pack as my adjusted time results from Saturday, so that tells me about where I stand. Once again, I'm squarely in the pack of 2nd-tier orienteers.

Orienteering race 2:10:46 [4] ** 12.9 km (10:08 / km)
ahr:150 spiked:19/20c shoes: Low Top O-spikes

Day 1 at Quantico. Giving ourselves three hours for the two hour drive from our Friday night hotel, we hit 45min. of stand-still around DC, and rolled into the meet site late. Long story short, I missed my start time for the inflexible WRE by 24 minutes, about the same amount of time I wandered around the meet site looking for the as-yet unmarked childcare.

So, my goals changed as my start time came and went: my new goal was to ignore the rush and distraction, go through the prep, and then run a clean race without rattling. I met that goal, although my half-assed official time becomes a bit more respectable when the 24minutes are hacked off.

I'm a bit frustrated that my time for USOF rankings isn't adjusted (WRE inflexibility I can understand), but in the big picture (with some foreigners running 90min. on this course), I'm not sure Saturday's run will be a rankable run for me anyway, so it isn't worth complaining about. Plus, I made a vow a long time ago to appreciate the effort people put into A-meets and not to bitch about minor stuff--if it's major, someone else will snivel about it (seems to go with the sport), so I won't have to...

Running 33:00 [3] 3.0 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (Lititz)

Ran down to practice, where we did a decent relay-style map memory event, then ran home in time for trick-or-treat.
