HFW via dropping off a coat, opted to take a different route and went exploring Coryton roundabout as well.

Run - Trail warm up/down 13:44 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (3:44 @3) 2.03 km (6:46 / km) +19m 6:28 / km
shoes: VJ Supra 14

Plenty of time so had quite a nice warm up, also timed getting into the pen well as Robert appeared less than a minute later (while i was still warming up...).
4 AM

Run - Orienteering race 1:01:56 intensity: (5:00 @2) + (30:00 @3) + (25:00 @4) + (1:56 @5) 7.66 km (8:05 / km) +323m 6:41 / km

Harvester Relay, Blake Holme leg 4 with FVO (Dave G, Nixon, Robert, Me, Roger, Ross & Jagor),

Quite a wait before going out as times quite a bit slower than the predicted winning times. So much so that I didn't think i would have a night leg at all! As it worked out it was dark for the first few, dark enough in the open and the return to the forest to see outlines but nothing more and then reasonably light for the last open loop.

First two controls were great and very tricky, then quite a few easy ones in the open (would have been a bit harder if completely dark) and then some nice and some very easy controls back in the woods. Open at the end was easy in the lightening conditions. Disappointed not to go into the green woods though.

Careful navigation in the woods, made two small mistakes when got pushed off line and when a path dent the wrong way to the map indicated, maybe a minute all in. Not moving very quickly though. Pleased with the run and to increases out lead a bit (never saw anyone else). Good runs by everyone (especially Mark and Jegor) saw us well beat EUOC, which was very satisfying.
5 AM

Run - Terrain warm up/down 4:00 [1] 0.44 km (9:10 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra 14

back down to the tent to wake Ross and Jegor up.
2 PM

Run - Terrain 1:00:03 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (25:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (5:03 @4) 8.31 km (7:13 / km) +205m 6:26 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons 2017

Very enjoyable run around xxxx with Ben to stretch the legs out a bit. Abandoned doing any proper orienteering when the discovered that the bracken was 3 times the height of the boulders! Nice mild day and really enjoyed it, didn't even feel too wiped out from last night.

Run - Orienteering 36:32 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (6:32 @4) 4.21 km (8:41 / km) +155m 7:20 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons 2017

training on Great Tower. never been here at this time of year and it was an awful lot tougher than usual with bracken and a lot of underfoot grass hiding stones and logs. It's also always a lot steeper than you want it to be. but good training and nice to get out and stretch the legs and very beneficial for the race tonight. Thanks Andy.
8 PM

Walk 41:21 [0] 2.46 km (16:48 / km) +36m 15:39 / km

Quite a hike from the car pack to the campsite, thankfully mostly downhill.

Run - Trail 1:08:03 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (35:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (3:03 @4) 10.23 km (6:39 / km) +489m 5:22 / km
shoes: Salomon Fellraiser 2017 (blue)

Too busy to do the run I wanted to do today but very much enjoyed this. A wooded hilly run from home, not a route that I do all that often. Broke in a new pair of shoes and it was trying to rain - my life is just full of excitement.

Bike - Road 30:16 intensity: (15:16 @2) + (15:00 @3) 12.97 km (2:20 / km) +25m 2:19 / km

IW. Lovely and cool. Moving nicely enough and aced the lights, so expecting to be quicker.
5 PM

Bike - Road 30:45 intensity: (15:45 @2) + (15:00 @3) 12.68 km (2:26 / km) +46m 2:23 / km

HFW. Bit of a head wind, just enough to make it hard at times. Lots of people and kids out even though it was a fair bit cooler than yesterday.
7 PM

Run - Trail 1:16:31 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (35:00 @2) + (25:00 @3) + (6:31 @4) 10.7 km (7:09 / km) +430m 5:57 / km
shoes: Salomon Fellraiser 2016

Very easy run over the Garth and Taffs Well quarry with Will and rcro. The right sort of temperature for running, though the legs were a bit shot from yesterday's effort.

Bike - Road 31:46 [2] 12.97 km (2:27 / km) +24m 2:26 / km

IW. Pretty warm for first thing in the morning.
5 PM

Bike - Road 12:54 [1] 3.86 km (3:20 / km) +22m 3:15 / km

Out to the Park O from work, collecting Nicky on the way. Damn warm (30 degrees) and so glad to get out of the office after the air-con broke down at lunchtime.
6 PM

Run - Orienteering race 30:12 [5] 6.88 km (4:23 / km) +81m 4:09 / km
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07

SWOC Park series, Heath Park.
Not run around here much before so was looking forward to it. More on grass than usual for these races, which was nice, but it also meant no protection from the sun. Made about 20 minutes before really suffering (as expected) and really struggled over the last third with the heat. A few misses on the myriad of (unmapped) small paths in the (very) dark woods (maybe 40 seconds) but otherwise clean and just trying to cope with the temperature.

Run - Trail warm up/down 13:44 [1] 2.26 km (6:05 / km) +25m 5:45 / km
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07

Loop of the park to try and recover a bit and loosen the legs out.
8 PM

Bike - Road 50:35 [2] 18.25 km (2:46 / km) +88m 2:42 / km

From the orienteering to the SWOC committee meeting and then home. Tyre had gone down during the O, pumped it up and hoped for best. Got me as far as the meeting but was flat again when leaving. Pumped it up again and set off home. Getting dark and tyre going down. Opted with the pump-and-ride strategy, so needed three more pumps to get home. Strange cycling in the dark on the shortest night of the year.

Bike - Road 31:39 [2] 12.94 km (2:27 / km) +29m 2:25 / km

IW. Had to shout at a builder for talking on his phone while driving before even leaving Moy Road. Warm.
4 PM

Bike - Road 30:08 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (15:08 @3) 12.74 km (2:22 / km) +56m 2:19 / km

HFW. Really warm and got very warm. Not a burning hot heat though and felt comfortable, if a bit sweaty.
6 PM

Run - Trail 1:25:00 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (25:00 @2) + (45:00 @3) + (8:00 @4) + (3:00 @5) 12.53 km (6:47 / km) +359m 5:56 / km

MDC run around the waterfalls in Pontneddfechan. perfect evening for it with multiple stops for dips in the surprisingly warm rivers. Huge group meant plenty of stopping (aside from the swimming) but it was so nice to be out. Again, found it warm but not hot - racing would probably have felt different though (will find out at the park event tomorrow).
