Note
(rest day)

Home at 3am, had a lie in to get some sleep but had to work late to make up the time, missed the MDC run (shame as it was a glorious evening) but wouldn't have had the energy anyway.

Shamrock O-Ringen Day 3, Crohane Lake, 7.4km, 220m, 22c, M21E. Left the start feeling good but soon ran out of energy on the first climb and really struggled again on the way up the hills. Just nothing other than plodding in my legs this weekend unfortunately - really shoes up in my splits where I hardly break the top 6 on any legs.

However, being technically sound again meant that I had a decent time, but no where near as good a time as I had running in the new bit of forest, really loved this as it was a popper challenge. Wasn't always clean or straight, but I think that was the nature of the terrain as much as anything. Dropped about 90 seconds on #15 as it just didn't feel right when I got in the woods - the gps seems to confirm that things were a little out in there.

Did see my 2 minute Swede at #11 but only briefly, thought he's either made a mistake or run away from me as I never saw him again, but for some reason he appears to have retire there - is seeing me that scary a sight???

Great way to finish a very enjoyable three days or excellent orienteering, now to give my body a bit of rest and see if I can coax it into feeling a bit better - I can feel fitness there but it's just not making itself known.

Thanks to everyone in Cork for running such an excellent event. Can't wait for 2015 - it will be THE event to go to that year!

Shamrock O-Ringen Day 2, Crohane Mountain, 10.3km, 400m, 19c, M21E. Never got going today, legs were tired from the start and I really struggled with the long slow climb from #1 to #4. Technically pretty sound (which was just as well with my running pace) and it was a joy to get away from the western side of the mountain (which is pretty rough) and over the the magical area of big crags and knolls by the lake - love this area so much.

Nic and the Swedes were well ahead today but I somehow managed to keep the rest of the young guys behind me - though only just (30 people running an Elite race in Ireland - good times).

have ended up 4th going into the chasing start with one of the Swedes about 2 minutes in front and ConorS about 6 minutes behind, so should be safe where I am. Another dry (but not quite sunny) day and a very relaxed atmosphere at the event.

Shamrock O-Ringen Day 1, Inchibcoosh Wind Farm, 5.6km, 185m, 19c, M21E. Great to be back on the technical open mountains of SW Ireland. Area every bit as tough as I was expecting and I held a steady pace rather than trying to push anywhere with half an eye on surviving the next two days.

Course was actually pretty easy, but I think that was mostly because the mapper had re-mapped the area and done all the simplifying for you, with the result that the only control sites available were massive features, so as long as you kept in the right direction you were going to see the flag.

Happy enough with the run, only dropped a few seconds on #3 and lost contact on the leg to #12, but otherwise could just feel last weekends fell race in my legs. Would have had to push quite hard to match Dooby's time and don't think I could have matched the Swedes at all.

Nice day out and an interesting assembly among the wind turbines.

No time for training today, on the eas to the amazing Shamrock O-Ringen for a stunning weekends orienteering in the Irish sun. Feel sorry for everyone not going as they're missing out big time.

Was going to meet Mark and head to Swansea with him for the Thursday evening session only he rang while I was waiting for him unable to find his car keys! Glad to see I'm not the only one with dementia!

So with only trail shoes and being on the north side of Cardiff, I headed to the nearest hill that I could drive up! (Legs are still not right and I just wanted to loosen them out a bit). Had a nice exploratory run around the top of a hill north of Caerphilly but the legs felt rough the whole way. Hopefully things will improve for Saturday.

Note
(rest day)

Walked into work this morning with the intention of a quick run home, but my legs were still so sore and tired I thought it better to give them more rest. Shouldn't have bothered though as the weather forecast was, for once, completely accurate and I got properly drenched.
