By the time I got to the 1st control I had already considered just walking back to my car and driving off. Totally blew the 1st 2 or 3 controls. Almost 7 min's to find the 1st one, seriously!!? After that it got better and more normal, but w/ my motivation totally sapped from doing so horribly on the first few I didn't really have much drive for the rest.

I think my mistake was letting the vegetation veer me off of my plan combined with trying to run without slowing down to make sure I was following exactly where I was going. That led to my disorientation winding up near #5 instead of #1, and on way to #2 I was very, very sloppy too.

My only solace is tomorrow is another day and another race. But definitely not happy w/ this debacle today.

Ran & field checked the Baldwin Gulch Permanent courses for RMOC. Everything still in good shape except the control under the bridge is just standing upright held by rocks. Plus mapping update needed. Felt really sluggish and tired today. Not sure why, had 9 hrs of sleep last night!

Old map and Red course from Palmer Park. Wow! That was deceiving. Looked like just another normal front-range-type park, and only 13 controls, so I though, eh, probably 45 min's or so. WRONG! Quite rugged and technical in places and lots of climb, let alone higher elevation too, so a pretty good workout. Since I was using an old map I had to stop a lot and figure out what was going on, but still pretty workable especially if I ignored trails, roads, etc. Pretty big park too. Very nice, surprised we haven't done an event here for so long. Although the vegetation fight can be pretty annoying in places and a lot has grown since the last RMOC event here. Beautiful day for it.

Training course at Bear Creek Greenbelt. Pretty tired by the time this started due to fishing w/ my son at 5am the same day! Very enjoyable course. I thought the fake coyote was real on the way to #18. It was scaring me so I veered around it only to realize once I could see it from the right angle that it was completely flat board. The area around #4 messed me up, and I had to be very careful in the wooded areas around the river, so although this course looked easy on the surface I had to slow myself down and make sure I was on top of it. Excellent training and grateful for the opportunity RMOC!
