Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Spring 2009 Integrators

Warmup before the Pig Middle. A couple of times up and down a grassy hill.

Orienteering race 38:30 [4] **** 4.8 km (8:01 / km) +290m 6:10 / km
shoes: Spring 2009 Integrators

2009 Flying Pig Blue Middle.

Another very nice OCIN course and event. I could nitpick about one aspect of the course, but it was really quite fine.

My performance was not good and not bad. I wasn't moving fast enough for one thing, but I lost the most time on shorter legs.

Note

After a few too many beers with Sandy and the Eagles, we decided that I would ask Greg to switch positions in the relay in the morning.

Run 30:00 [2]

Level 8 hills.

Accelerated over last 6 minutes to finish at 9.8 mph.

Cross Training 20:00 [2]
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

Level 8 hills.

Weight training 30:00 [2]

The weight training I should be doing every week (and should have done a day earlier this week to prep my muscles for battle.) Because of proximity to the event, I kept it light. Did machines and a circuit.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

Level 8 hills.

Orienteering 16:00 [2] *
shoes: Salomon SpeedCross 2 2009

Back to Alewife along the shorter southern route.

Note

Eased into my effective unemployment with a (large) Wild Devil. The first glass is a bit of a shock to the system, but it quickly becomes quite agreeable.

Run warm up/down 7:00 [1]
shoes: Spring 2009 Integrators

Trivial warmup.

Orienteering race 1:30:13 intensity: (10:00 @3) + (1:20:13 @4) *** 11.8 km (7:39 / km) +425m 6:29 / km
23c shoes: Spring 2009 Integrators

QOC Blue Long. A much better course, although still uninspiring.

I think you could have set a good middle on a small portion of this map. And then maybe had some terrain left over to do the long. I am not sure how you salvage yesterday's area. I presume there was not enough around the edges to do a long? Because otherwise, it is really only local event quality.

Anyway, I was rather disappointed in my performance here. Not sure what was going on, but it was an unpleasant surprise.

Note

Unlike some of my peers, I really did enjoy the weekend. True, the courses and terrain did not compare to the QOC US Champs. But, they were certainly pleasant and not wrong.

And, everything else about the weekend was superlative. I cannot find fault with anything. Including the prices.

Run warm up/down 15:00 [1]
shoes: Spring 2009 Integrators

Easy warmup. Felt a lot better than yesterday.

Orienteering race 36:46 [3] ** 5.3 km (6:56 / km) +215m 5:46 / km
shoes: Spring 2009 Integrators

QOC Blue "Middle."

Truly, one of the easiest "middles" I have ever done. It got the physical parameters right, but the technical aspects were unfortunately lacking.

My performance was OK. A little wobbly in places, but no big mistakes.
