Bike 1:00:00 [2]

Level 8 hills.

19+ miles or so.

Run 30:00 [2]
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

Level 8 hills.

This was supposed to be 1 hour but the running shorts I was trying today caused enough chafing in 30 minutes to make going on questionable.

Bike 1:10:00 [2]

To finish out the day.

Note

While I was on the bike I saw parts of Star Wars Episodes 1 & 2.

Wow, they are bad. I don't know which one is worse. They aren't even campy.

I had seen each before in the theater, and felt robbed at the time. I still felt robbed this time, even though I was only paying with cursory attention.

Note
(rest day)

Didn't plan to make this a rest day, but I've been tired all week. I didn't get home tonight until 10:50 and decided to err on the side of rest.

Run 1:00:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (40:00 @3) + (5:00 @4)
shoes: Reeboks

TNT.

The discerning runners came out for one of the final TNTs of this era.

That is why Bobby Curtis was there. That is why Aeolus tried vainly to blow us asunder. That is why the fox emerged from his den and joined us for a lap. It was an evening of strange happenings--befitting such a fundamental change in reality.

Tom stuck to his knitting, and didn't join Bobby and me. Luckily Bobby was taking things easy and only ran for 30 minutes.

We started out at 7 minute miles and I finished with 6:40 pace.

Dinner afterward was great, of course. Tom made a great dessert and Eric a great salad.

Bobby also brought me a bag of schwag. Maybe I don't need to infiltrate the CANadian orienteering team anymore. I can be Mr. Reebok.

Rowing Machine 1:00:00 [2]

Easy row.

Run 1:36:00 [2]
shoes: 9 2007 Adidas

A very nice TNT, but only because I didn't run too long and I was able to get back to see the gang and have some of the delectable food that Karl provided. The soup and bread were a marvelous combination.

The running, however, was noski. Trail conditions were awful. Mud, a lot of water, and some icy patches. I ran without a light (save on the trail down and back) and with the overcast skies providing a uniform faint glow, the palpable silence and not seeing any other souls, it was a tripping experience. Evidently, I was going slowly on top of that.

Rowing Machine warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Very light warmup. Damper on 6.

Rowing Machine 1:00:00 [4] 15.13 km (3:58 / km)

As the days are growing short, so to speak, I realized that the window for me to accomplish my rowing goal for the winter (and for the foreseeable future) is rapidly closing. So, I decided today I would do it.

Put the damper on 6 and just started. The goal was to pull <1:57 as long as possible, and then coast at 2:00 for a while. If things got bad, I'd have money in the bank.

Spms were 25ish to start, and then gradually crept up.

It turns out that this goal was reasonable. Of course, my hands sucked. They went from mild callouses to blisters, to no blisters, to a bit bloody. I preemptively taped the fingers, so they weren't a problem. It was the part right below the fingers on the palm.

Anyway, the legs/lungs were OK. True, I felt very languid, but my endurance is quite decent. For the most part, things were right there between 1:57 and 2:00. But, the hands, where the rubber meets the road, did not help the cause.

15,134 meters.

If I were doing some rowing training (pieces) and some weight training, I would expect to add 500 meters to this. But, that is not to be.
