Note

I have resolutely resolved that this is my last year in USOF. While I've had these feelings before, everyone deserves a another chance. But, those are done.

I won't change anything, but at least I will remain true to my (quixotic?) world view.

If I am in USOF 1 year hence, I will be a great disappointment and deserve a slap.

Note

I think I should write a book on the hedge fund industry, or the asset management industry in general. It will be called "Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc."

Note

I finished "Challenges in Quantitative Equity Management." While it was uneven, and lost its momentum, the first 2 chapters were great, and far better than tripe that Taleb has written recently. Though, I may have to someday take a look at "Dynamic Hedging," but I am still recovering from reading his "Fooled..." two years on.

Note

Home at 10:30, but still intended to go to the gym. But, spoke to Sophia a while and it was 11:30.

I think the tragedy of getting old is that 10 years ago I would have gone for a run after a long day of whatever. Now, I am simply exhausted.

Note

Had dinner with Mezzo and intended to go to the gym when I got back to the hotel. But, arriving at 9:40, I found that it closed at 9:30, which, I hate to say, was a relief rather than a disappointment.

Run warm up/down 11:49 [1]
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

Easy run to the park from 44th street, up 6th avenue.

Very strange sensations. My legs were very tight, sore almost, and felt like on the verge of cramping up. Odd.

(Three days later, I am thinking this was due to either fatigue from 3 hours sleep the night before or very low-grade food poisoning, or too much coffee and too little water.)

Run 39:08 intensity: (10:00 @3) + (29:08 @4)
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

Here it is. The loop. My formative crucible.

As getting there was so disconcertingly uncomfortable, and the first couple strides were really uncomfortable, I thought it was going to be a bust. But, as the memories of many good days suffused me and the milieu carried me forth, I thought I should try to make the best of things.

Like in the old days, I passed everyone. Which is not necessarily a feat considering that there may not have been many serious runners (but there seemed to be some worthies, plus a lot of running boot-camps) this was an empowering sensation.

Anyway, started here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&q=10023&ll=40.... went counter-clockwise, and took a split here (I think): http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&q=10023&ll=40....

Split was 27:27 and total was 39:08. Which would have been a good time when I was running good times here. And it certainly was a good time, reminding me of my favorite parts of my time in NYC.

Hike 17:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (7:00 @2)
shoes: 9 2007 Saucony

This was a chore. I wanted to cool down for a while, but after a couple minutes, was so sore I had to walk.
