Orienteering 1:03:02 [3] *** 8.1 km (7:47 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

Jog/run of open course 1. This one would have been fun to race.

Matthias Merz ran this in 43-44.

I think I could do low 50's if racing?

Orienteering 1:01:00 [3] *** 7.6 km (8:02 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

Long training. Moderate pace. Eddie and I saw each other occassionally. Did a 135 error.

Note

Mullty sport day.

In order:
Run (warmup)
Orienteering (longish)
swimming
mini-golf (the hellish Danish version. Scored a 65 over 18 to win by one stroke.)
foosball
ping pong
volleyball

Funny - I actually had to turn this computer on when I sat down but Attackpoint still thinks I'm j-man. Maybe Boris wasn't so careless about logging off as Eddie thought. - jtorranc

Orienteering 56:00 [2] **** 6.8 km (8:14 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

Crappy area but supposed to be middle relevant. Some was open fields (with cows), some was thick with spiders.

Orienteering 39:00 [2] *** 5.0 km (7:48 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

Easy run out to the toilet paper course start with James, some running arounf the white woods, and back.

Monday Jul 24, 2006 #

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] *** 8.0 km (7:30 / km)

With Boris.

shoes: VJ Spikes

Another easy run. Thicker this time.

Run 46:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Asics

Warmup, with Speedy and Tom.

Twisted my ankle, unfortunately. Not too bad--should be better in a couple days. No discoloration, minimal swelling, but tender.

Run intervals 15:00 [4]
shoes: Asics

400M repeats with Speedy.
1:12
1:17
1:15
1:15

Recovery was one jogging lap.

Legs felt decent and didn't notice the ankle until afterwards.

Run 1:07:00 [2]
shoes: Asics

TNT Classic.

Ran alone because Sandy and Anne were doing a shorter run.

Went down to Lincoln Drive. The race course out was probably a tempo run, then easy jog down, turned around, and back up the race course. That was definitely temp run.

Times: approx. 22:00 out, 21:55 back.

On the way back it got very stormy. A large tree part fell next to the trail and lightning was turned on.

I opted not to do a cooldown and instead trucked in right back to the house.

Sunday Jul 16, 2006 #

Run 52:00 [2] 9.9 km (5:15 / km)
shoes: Adidas

Run with Speedy to Tyler. Not a lot of zip, but a lot of joules.

Saturday Jul 15, 2006 #

Run 46:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:25 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

Warmup with Speedy and Eddie. Saw muchos raspberrios on our travels. How could we just run by? Got to the Kewl KM^2 where we ran around a part in the crazy downpour. Then back.

I got us a bit lost after missing a turn. We had to crash through some crap (luckily laden with raspberries.)

Orienteering 35:10 [4] **** 5.1 km (6:54 / km) +170m 5:55 / km
shoes: VJ Spikes

Running Sandy's Green course from the April Fair Hill meet (a WOC 2006 middle distance course in disguise.)

Started 3 minutes after Speedy and 2 before Eddie. Probably 8 minutes after Sandy/Dasha?

A very good race. A little route choice hesitation on 2, but once committed, pushed it. Also, a bit of a hesitation on 4 when I misread and thought I was going to 5. Maybe 30 seconds lost?

Saw Dasha and Sandy at 5.

On the way to 8 another downpour started. This was wild. It was raining, thundering like crazy. The woods were dark and intense.

It somehow helped me to increase my concentration and I kept spiking things, though I lost whatever edge I had in the legs. Last 1/3 dragged.

EricW was spectating in the last control picking area.

Finish run in was tough! And visually neat, as the rain was like a shroud.

Eddie and I did about the same time. I had thought 30 minutes would have been a doable time, but after running the course I realize that was out of reach. Not sure why. I wonder what a good time is?

Orienteering warm up/down 21:00 [2] *** 3.0 km (7:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

Control pickup with Speedy. Wow, I think we were beat. Ate lots of berries on the way back (Dasha picked some for me.)

Thursday Jul 13, 2006 #

Run 1:47:00 [3] 21.0 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Old Asics

TNT Media.

Vadim was our platoon leader. He set a good pace, not to hard, not to soft. Decent level 3 run.

A little up, a little down.

Tuesday Jul 11, 2006 #

Run 1:30:00 [2] 11.8 mi (7:38 / mi)
shoes: Asics

TNT Classic.

Felt quite lethargic before and afterwards, but seemingly OK during. Made it down to Ridge Avenue in 44:00 or so.

The split down to Walnut Lane and the split back were both around 23:30-23:40.

Definitely a level 2 effort.

Run back up to Sandy's/TheClubHouse was tough. I guess it was hot.

Great dinner by Anne and really nice wine from Bob.

Total distance an estimate.
We had pasta salad, shrimp cocktail, and regular salad. Just perfect. I skipped dessert.

Sunday Jul 9, 2006 #

Orienteering 1:20:00 [2] **** 10.0 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

FCE training with Speedy.

Some extreme O thrown in: finding platforms and circle ditches in way high, super thick medium green. Spiked them! Somehow.

Also, some kamikaze downhill running ~ 5:00 per k through ferns and rocks. Speedy is crazy.

Mosquitos were terrible.

Pizza afterwards.

Saturday Jul 8, 2006 #

Note

Summer Series at Great Falls?

Run 1:30:00 [2] 16.0 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Old Asics

West along the Rocky Run trail and back.

Discovered three attached deer ticks in this 24 hours.

Horse game afterwards.

Friday Jul 7, 2006 #

Run 45:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:38 / km)

Around the neighborhood with headlamp at night.

Thursday Jul 6, 2006 #

Run 1:35:00 [3] 20.0 km (4:45 / km)
shoes: Old Asics

TNT

To Ridley north, with Tom and Vadim.

Pushed on the way back. This time I guess I can share in the blame.

Celebrity chef Tom made some smashing fajitas and tequila-laced pineapple for dessert. Craziness.

Run 5:00 [2] 0.8 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

I needed a cooldown.

Wednesday Jul 5, 2006 #

Run 1:00:00 [2] 6.6 mi (9:05 / mi)

Run with Dasha to Tyler

Tuesday Jul 4, 2006 #

Sawing, shoveling etc... -- fence posts.

Sunday Jul 2, 2006 #

Note

FCN

Orienteering race 1:35:56 [4] 11.2 km (8:34 / km) +400m 7:16 / km

FCN. A very good race, but felt tired. I also thought it felt hot.

Anyway, orienteering was how I intended it to be -- purposeful and methodical. Everything where I expected it. Did have a couple bad route choices which got me into more green/rocks, but almost always had success finding the bag right away. And I guess I got lucky.

Would have liked to run faster.

Saturday Jul 1, 2006 #

Orienteering 1:30:00 [2] **** 11.0 km (8:11 / km)
shoes: VJ Spikes

FCE training. Most of the time doing 150-200 meter attackpoint exercises, hopping from platform to platform. Took it very easy, but still twisted my ankle at ~30 minutes. Considered bagging it to do a trail run, but it felt better, so I continued the orienteering.
