A glorious evening for running. The river was smooth, the path glistening, and I was in little danger of being mugged.

Went to the end of hte Water Works on the way out but had bad GI on way back so had to walk it home after 13:30 of return trip.

ahr:156 max:164 spiked:11/17c shoes: VJ Spikes

Quite a good race. I executed very well, read ahead, and adjusted speed appropriately. I did have some hestitations and (very) slightly missed 1, 7, 9, 11. Almost mispunched 13 but was reading the codes on every one (not standard practice) partially because I heard Angelica mispunched and partially because I was seeing extra controls everywhere.

Also, 2 small route choice bobbles.

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Run warm up/down 4:57 [1] 0.5 mi (9:54 / mi)
shoes: Asics

twice around the block

Note

left leg is really feeling beat up today. The ankle did not bother me during the course on Sunday. I did not use the Active Ankle since I wasn't sure these things are reversible (they must be, but I didn't want to risk it) but the tape job was fine.

Today, however, around work the ankle was tender.

Additionally, I somehow rammed my right knee into the back right of the other knee during the race. It is a real contusion and hurts a lot right now.

Sunday Oct 2, 2005 #

Orienteering race 58:20 [4] **** 7.2 km (8:06 / km) +185m 7:11 / km
ahr:147 max:157 spiked:9/16c shoes: VJ Spikes

French Creek North red.
A mixed bag.
Somehow after mummifying my ankles, I ran out of time to warmup. So I didn't. I think rather than cause physical impairment, this may have caused mental impairment. Or maybe something else was wrong.

I missed #1 although I ran across the feature (a patch of stony ground). I missed #2 to the tune of a couple miutes, #4 and #5. Then I just missed #15.

#2 and #5 were definitely my mistakes, but I'm not sure the other ones were. I on the right feature at #1. At #3, a tree fallen over the boulders the control was located on seemed to obscure the whole apparatus from where I was coming from. Then #15, on a platform on a flatish area was on the back lip of the platform, behind a big tree. I passed within 15 meters of that one.

In general, the controls were hung really low.

So, while I suppose some of this is my fault, I don't think it all is. Maybe I'm blind, but if you get so close to the control and can't see it, I think something is wrong.

Anyway, otherwise I had a good run. Te ankle didn't bother me much and I ran pretty fast.
