Wet, wild, and muddy.

It was Karl and I.

Orienteering 27:00 [3] **** 3.5 km (7:43 / km) +110m 6:40 / km
shoes: New VJ Spikes

Training by OK Fillebrown.

Nice, but slipped down the icy berm, backwards, on my butt. A bit funny but also painful (for several days.)

Orienteering 20:00 [2] ** 3.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: New VJ Spikes

Control pickup.

Thursday Feb 22, 2007 #

Run 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Lop

TNT with Sandy and Tom.

Thursday Feb 15, 2007 #

Run 40:00 [3] 4.7 mi (8:31 / mi)
shoes: Lop

TNT.

Tom and Sandy were there.

Ran on the track--the first people to do so after the snow.

It was quite crusty, but not crusty enough to not fall through. Hard work. On the last few laps I could not keep up with Tom..

Run long 1:31:00 [3] 9.0 mi (10:07 / mi)
shoes: Lop

Took off to Tyler in the afternoon, in the manner of one without a job. Running in the afternoon is something I could get used to, but it might make me soft, so not so much of that.

Intended to do 1 hour to 1:20, but ended up going longer (perhaps just because of the fact that the pace slowed after 50 minutes or so, especially as the snow got crustier.)

Went to the fox den, but no evidence of foxes there. There were many tracks elsewhere. Saw a big hawk-like thing, but we have many more colorful birds at home.

It would have been great conditions for skiing (were I to do such a thing) and indeed, one intrepid soul was gliding classic style through Tyler.

For my part, I ran on trails, fields, or forest. It was all the same: "Very Nice!!" Perhaps even calling for: "High Five!!"

Well, I digress. Those evaluations are best done by my colleagues with more hair and fewer inhibitions.

Note

While the weather outside was frightful, I felt quite delightful.

And who wouldn't? With my performance apparel from Axis Gear* and lightweight racing shoes from Berman's Orienteering Supply*, I was ready for anything.

And then when I got home, I made myself a tall glass of oh-so-refreshing Gookinaid Hydralyte* electrolyte replacement drink in the yummy orange flavor. I was rejeuvenated in no time!

* Yes indeedy, these are all official sponsors of the DVOA Jukola 2007 Team. These fine firms know a winner! (You might call this a commercial endorsement. No kidding! DVOA Jukola 2007 is unabashedly commercial, and undeniably good.)

Note

Had one of these later.

Not a sponsor, yet, but I suppose there are higher priorities.

Weight training 10:00 [2]

Bike 20:00 [3] 8.04 mi (2:29 / mi)

Level 7 hills.

Note

TNT was cancelled, so I got to go to the Fed gym one last time. And reflect on teh end of another chapter in life.

2 more years down. But, they were good ones. I exceeded my expectations for my own orienteering career in some respects. Or I guess I had a chance to continue what I set aside in 2000.

Is there more to do? Well, certainly. How will the new gig contribute to that? Hard to say.

I suppose if the market continues to go up, boats of all types will be lifted. Of course, we want to make money regardless of what the "market" does, but let's be honest; the "market" is our master whether or not we thumb our nose at it.

More prosaically, a stable market is a first order indicator of lack of disturbances beneath the surface. Though, those shoals can still exist.

Ships foundered on natural gas in September while the market was sanguine.

Anyway, I better go look at some options.

Weight training 20:00 [2]

Upper body, back extensions, abs.

Bike 40:00 [2] 14.4 mi (2:47 / mi)

Level 5 hills.

Sunday Feb 11, 2007 #

Run 45:00 [2] 5.35 mi (8:25 / mi)
shoes: Lop

Ran with Dasha to Tyler. Tried to see the foxes, but they were not at home.

Ran back faster.

Cross Training warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Weight training 20:00 [2]

Cross Training 20:00 [2]

Bike 20:00 [2]

Note

Pretty laconic day, I'd say.

This makes me yearn for a "copy workout from" feature on AP. Of course, this also points to a need for me to do better training.

Wednesday Feb 7, 2007 #

Cross Training warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Warmup

Weight training 20:00 [2]

Upper body, but also did the hip ab/aductors. Why not? The R^2 for these leg exercises and butt pain isn't that high. In other words, butt pain exists without exercises and with them. Spurious correlation.

Still, won't be doing any jumpies any time soon, ditto crazy leg press.

Bike 30:00 [3]

Level 6 hills on the easy side of level 3.

Tuesday Feb 6, 2007 #

Run 25:00 [2] 2.8 mi (8:56 / mi)
shoes: New VJ Spikes

Warmup/down and to and from.

Run hills 32:00 [4] 3.0 mi (10:40 / mi)
shoes: New VJ Spikes

TNT

Hills with Sandy and Jim.

I wouldn't call these "sprints"--just steady progress up the rocky and hard hill.

Monday Feb 5, 2007 #

Run 10:00 [2] 1.17 mi (8:33 / mi)
shoes: Reeboks

Warmup on treadmill because Xtrainers were full.

Weight training 25:00 [2]

Upper body, calves, and extra abs.

Cross Training 20:00 [2]

Level 6 glutes 1.

Run 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Reeboks

Treadmill because bikes were full.

Hills slowly (10 minutes/mile) plus a little fast stuff (6 minutes per mile) on the flats.

Saturday Feb 3, 2007 #

Run warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.2 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: New VJ Spikes

"Warmup." I was still pretty cold.

Orienteering 41:20 [4] **** 6.7 km (6:10 / km) +155m 5:32 / km
shoes: New VJ Spikes

Sandy's FCE training.

Ran well, or at least efficiently. I wasn't technically perfect, but I kept moving and had good flow.

Often off to the left or right coming into controls, but would figure things out before too long.

Map hike 15:00 [2] *** 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: New VJ Spikes

Some control pickup

Run 5:00 [1] 0.8 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: New VJ Spikes

Back from pickup.

Thursday Feb 1, 2007 #

Run 45:00 [2]
shoes: Reeboks

TNT.

Ran part of the time with Jim.
