Note

We went to Avatar tonight. It was great. I'm not sure it met my original expectations, which may have had transmuted into something unreasonable over the years of anticipation. But, as reality sets in, as it inevitably does, and fantasy gives way to reality (or a fantasy reality) my expectations had come into line. And early previews were not encouraging.

However, over recent months and weeks my hopes were rekindled, and much like futures tend to converge to the underlying spot as their maturity approaches, my expectations converged to something close to what this movie delivered.

It has some weaknesses, but the overall product is inspiring.

Bike 1:00:00 [2] 19.0 mi (3:09 / mi)

Level 8 hills. Wanted to run, but too close to dinner.

Instead, tried the Kindle on the bike for the first time. It worked exactly as I had anticipated--quite well. What I couldn't have anticipated was how it snugly fits into the nook on the apparatus, making it even more secure than its center of mass and shape would otherwise.

I made some progress on the Wealth of Nations. And I continue to be so struck by the divergence between the perspicaciousness of this work and the tripe from guys like NNT, Krugman, Levitt, and much lesser lights like Buchanan, etc. While it is not entirely their fault, as the stars shine much brighter far from the city lights, I can't stomach a stew of drivel and haughtiness.

And my one thought for the night--is my life enriched by being able to consume knowledge with such comparative ease compared to my forebears who read by tallow candles and wrote with... whatever? Or similarly, are today's athletes (say Phelps and Woods) so much better than their predecessors, owing to... whatever? I really do have (epicurean) Luddite sensibilities. OK, off to the iPod, which will sync itself to my other Kindle. Bless it.
