5 AM

Running with weights 24:04 [2] 4.95 km (4:52 / km) +26m 4:44 / km
ahr:157 max:169 slept:3.0 shoes: Puma Trailfox

Got up just before 5 am, gathered my O-belongings, and ran from the hotel to Woodside station. Made it with about five luxurious minutes to spare.

Note

Took LIRR to Penn Station, then NJT to Suffern. Met Bernie and kids there somewhat after 8 am.
10 AM

Orienteering race (Middle) 47:47 [4] **** 5.64 km (8:28 / km) +262m 6:53 / km
ahr:167 max:177 spiked:14/14c shoes: Puma Trailfox

2010-O-32

I don't think I made a single mistake at the Middle at West Point. I took a very conservative route to Control 5, which cost me maybe 40 seconds, and AP marked another low-risk/more-climb route to 8 as a loss. But I was always in control on that one; reactive, yes.

It was warm (the HRM says 30 °C), but I didn't have physical difficulties at any time. The distance measurement is from RouteGadget, climb is from the map (the HRM noised up).
1 PM

Orienteering race (Sprint) 18:47 [4] *** 3.31 km (5:40 / km) +95m 4:58 / km
ahr:170 max:180 spiked:18/18c shoes: Puma Trailfox

2010-O-33

The Sprint was practially error-free, too. I ran early and navigated well, but was close to losing control towards the end, after the climb to Control 15.

Distance and climb are as above.

Note

Bernie delivered me to Suffern, from where I took a train back to the City. The agreement was to meet Mom at the Metropolitan Museum at 5 pm—that's where her daylong tour ended. So, I changed the subway lines under Times Square just before 5, maybe at 4:52 pm. Someone on the 4/5 platform was rambling loudly about how the world was going to immediately end and we were all going to burn in hell, which made me considerably uncomfortable.

But for some reason Mom decided to go back to where the tour started, Battery Park. Her cellphone decided to go on AT&T again, so I couldn't reach her, and when she tried to call me using the tour guide's phone, I was already in the subway. So, I didn't get the message until Lani called me as I was closing in on the MMA after 5. I turned around and went back into the subway and collected Mom in Battery Park around 5:40, and by the time we got to the hotel it was already 7, too late to go do dinner with Lani and her relatives. Mom and I just ate at the Marriott's bar.
