Warmup 7:40 [2] 1.0 km (7:40 / km)

Stretching was 3'00.

Orienteering 26:26 [4] 4.4 km (6:00 / km) +160m 5:05 / km
ahr:165 max:171 spiked:13/14c

RMOC 1Kd Sprint Prologue. Spent exactly as much energy as I though was necessary to still be within reach of the lead pack. Turned out I would start right at the end of what formed the second train—Eric, Graeme, and Marcus would move out of reach from the start of the Chase.

Orienteering 59:43 [4] 9.2 km (6:29 / km) +285m 5:37 / km
ahr:163 max:169 spiked:11/12c

RMOC 1Kd Sprint Chase. A good run, moved up a bunch of places. Was at the lead of Train 2 at #8 and started cramping up; decided to do 8–9 alone and did an S-curve around the line. Turned out that most Train 2 members were also alone and did various interesting things while at that, so it didn't cost me any places. But I let Eddie, Greg, and Stefan Hess pass me after #10 where navigation ended.

Note

A night in a sleeping bag in DIA—nice rogaine training? But I did get to see Boulder this night.

Note

Got up at 0:20 this morning to put together my mega-LED light. Things went well until it turned out that the white LEDs I bought were duds. Put the original (commercial) light together just in time to catch a cab to the airport.

Running with weights 31:38 [3] 5.4 km (5:51 / km)

Lincoln monument at I-80 to Yellow Pine campground, with pack. Chilly mtn air...

Warmup 7:20 [1] 1.0 km (7:20 / km)

Warm-up before the night-O—got to the start and found no water, carried some jugs from the finish. 1'40 stretching on the starting line.

Running with weights 1:19:15 [3] 11.3 km (7:01 / km) +230m 6:22 / km
ahr:162 max:173 spiked:11/16c

US Night-O Champs at the 1000 Days, Blue. A very passive jog—I do need one throwaway race at altitude to be able to run the following ones.

Easy running 12:56 [2] 2.5 km (5:10 / km)

Running with weights 13:57 [2] 2.5 km (5:35 / km)

During this jog from the old house, the tendon got warm and tender (but didn't hurt much except during a subsequent examination). It would suck if it gets worse over the weekend; although I'm not too concerned about tendonitis during a rogaine—just one more thing that's gonna hurt.

Warmup 2:00 [1] 0.0 km

Stretching.

Easy running 21:04 [2] 3.8 km (5:33 / km)

The left side of my back was sore.

Warmup 5:00 [1] 0.0 km

Next I knew, the left side eased up but the right side got quite tight. How am I gonna do the WRC after a 9-hr flight? Pray for an upgrade...

Warmup 12:53 [2] 2.0 km (6:27 / km)

Evening. 3:30 was stretching.

Short intervals 27:32 [5] 6.0 km (4:35 / km)
ahr:164 max:179

15×200 at De Anza with 200 m speedy rest (averaged 71 for rest but took an extra minute after #8). 35.9 34.4 35.4 34.7 35.7 35.3 34.9 35.2 35.2 36.5 35.2 35.0 34.7 35.0 34.9.
Tapio K joined me after the 3rd one. He did 10×200 at average 40 with mucho rest.
De Anza is possibly the best track surface generally available to the public that I have trained on so far.

Warmup 4:50 [1] 0.6 km (8:03 / km)

Cooldown.

Medium pace running 4:04 [3] 1.0 km (4:04 / km)
ahr:162 max:170

The real cooldown.

Running with weights 35:43 [1] 4.9 km (7:17 / km)

Late at night, around Sunnyvale looking for a laundromat. These people must just all fall asleep at 8 pm in their dirty clothes.

Easy running 17:15 [2] 3.5 km (4:56 / km)

My checked-in bag went to Ketchikan yesterday. Almost an around-the-world trip for the bag.

Easy running 1:09:05 [3] 16.2 km (4:16 / km)

Around Amsterdam: hotel (NZ Voorburgswal & St. Jacobsst.) -> canals -> Vondelpark -> Rembrandtpark -> Westerpark -> back. Westerpark was a trap with construction fences and a vicious dog.
