Warmup 8:40 [1] 0.6 km (14:27 / km)

Warmup, sort of. Trying not to freeze.

Orienteering 1:37:08 [4] 11.3 km (8:36 / km)

DVOA A-meet at Mt. Penn. Botched the first two controls badly, then gave up. Only got somewhat motivated by the King of the Hill leg (but gave up on the leg's downhill portion).

Warmup 19:00 [1] 1.9 km (10:00 / km)

Did a full warmup before the Short Champs. Ran up from the finish to the start after borrowing Kenny's HRM transmitter.

Orienteering 35:19 [5] 5.0 km (7:04 / km)

Short Course Champs. Very happy with the effort and with the place, but not with the time (the second uphill leg wasn't good---the almost-confident navigation would have been acceptable if I had moved a bit quicker). Had some intestinal issues after that leg. AHR = 172.

Tuesday May 14, 2002 #

Easy running 17:56 [1] 3.1 km (5:47 / km)

Monday May 13, 2002 #

Easy running 16:35 [1] 2.5 km (6:38 / km)

Bad blisters on little toes.

Note

The PO itch is very limited.
The northern part of Nisene Marks is one of the coolest O-places in the world, from the scenery point of view at least. From manzanita clearings one can see across Monterey Bay, all the way to Big Sur, and the mixed young redwood/deciduous forest is awesomely beautiful. The PO is everywhere but no more than ankle-high. The running is tough---closest to the mossy/overgrown Nordic stuff one can find south of the 45th parallel or so. Except it's not moss, it's redwood needles. Less steep than most Bay Area maps. And Aptos is really cool, with the beach and some weird places. Too bad the map is ancient and there's no parking anywhere.
