Orienteering race 1:47:00 [5] 5.0 mi (21:24 / mi) +225m 18:46 / mi
shoes: Icebug Pytho2 BUGrip

West Point A Meet Green-X Long. Worst orienteering ever for me. Big problems finding control 1 which should have been a gimme. I actually had run up to the right control in good time but then I must of read the number wrong and spent 20 minutes looking around the area on wrong level of cliffs. Finally I said "that must be it after all" and checked again. Not sure how I read it wrong. It was control 52 and it was upside down. Then I thought control 2 would be easy but it wasn't. It was near a control for another course but with the same feature (other side of a boulder, of course). Went back to a stone wall and navigated to 2. By this time I'm already at least 30 minutes in and 0 for 2 on finding controls, very tired and frustrated. The next control looked like it was not near any feature so decided to walk out of the woods. I went around Rattlesnake Bog and followed trails back. I saw lots of MP and DNF in the results so I was not the only person who had trouble.

Basically I just did everything wrong that I could do wrong. If I would have read the first control number correctly I would have probably been OK for the rest of the course. Also got frustrated when control 2, which looked easy, was hard to find. What is really bums me out is that after 5 years of orienteering I still have problems like this. Not sure I'll ever go back to West Point now.

Orienteering race 1:17:00 [5] 3.5 km (22:00 / km) +130m 18:33 / km
shoes: Icebug Pytho2 BUGrip

West Point A Meet Green-X Middle course. I made major errors on 2 controls then totally blew by the very last control hidden by a cabin 120 meters from the finish to get a DQ. I was so focused on getting out of the woods and to the finish that I overlooked the last control. This was the start of a very bad weekend of orienteering at West Point.

Orienteering race 31:20 [5] 2.1 km (14:55 / km) +70m 12:47 / km

West Point A Meet O/Br/Green Sprint. Found the 1st 3 controls quickly and easily. Control 2 was knocked over and there was another guy nearby looking for it so I took the time to stick it back into the ground. Problems with 4 where I went up on the rocks but it was down below. Ran past 6 and had to double back. Confused on 11 I think because the big building that's in the parking lot had the control number over it on the map so it was not jumping out of map to me. At least I finished this race.

Cycling 1:06:41 [3] 18.03 mi (3:42 / mi)

Pedal to work today. Finally the weather is feeling like spring. Temps in the 80s with a stiff breeze. I was hoping to test myself on the way in and attempt 20MPH average but there was a headwind most of the way plus I hit most of the red lights. Usually with green lights and no headwind I average in 19MPH range but today could only do 17.6MPH because of the wind. I've been trying to hit that 20MPH average for a while. Riding home was not much better because of course the wind shifted.
