Orienteering 2:31:06 [2] *** 14.0 km (10:48 / km)

Long (very long) Champs - Woodland Park, CO

It appears I tried to bite more than I can handle. I had no idea it's going to be 14K (I thought 9-10), besides I actually didn't know it was the champs :)

Another beautiful day in the woods, some frustration in the first half till I realized I will not get all markers. After that, it was so nice, I got a bit tired (great workout!), but I took it easy (see ahr) and really enjoyed my time in the CO woods. This may not sounds too orinteeri-sh or competitive or anything...but, oh well, I may be embarassed one day about it, not today. Anyway, I had it so much easier than Christoph, who cramped up real bad half way. It seemed like Marco was the only one to wisely evaluate his strength and play the right game.

Lessons learned: pay attention to the course lengths and ...possibly train for it...that is just a possibility.

Overall, I loved the map and I would go there again anytime!

Orienteering race 53:53 [4] **** 4.0 km (13:28 / km)
ahr:167 max:179 slept:2.0 shoes: Integrators

Short O Champs: Woodland Park, CO

Perfect weather, great views, (ok, maybe not as great as buena vista). I got a bit frustrated cause I messed up at control 8 a few minutes, and it was really such an easy control, and then I messed up awfully bad at 11 (about 6 min), as I came down on the wrong spur or re-entrant (I can never remeber which one is the word for what)...the valley, anyway. Then, the relocation exercise was not the best. Well, I got surprised to see that other people messed up pretty bad as well..I was expecting everyone else to have times at least 10min shorter than mine.

Overall, I found the map pretty nice, challenging enough...didn't like the barbwire skill test, altitude played games w/ my HR, but that shouldn't count if I look at my ahr.

Note
(rest day)

Rest from training. Plenty stress at work, I could sell it by the pound!!

Stretch/Strength (Body Pump) 45:00 [2]
shoes: BROOKS Radius

The usual deal. The instructor was quite annoying/scary. It reminded me of one of those pageant movies where the trainers yell at the girls "we're here to work, not to have fun!! Now, work it!"

I tried a quick run afterwards, but the combo of hot / humid / low enegy/my favourite shoes still soaking wet/missing head phones = 10min of pretending to run:)

Ate Crispy Creams (Cream Puffs) 45 [4]
(rest day)

Unplanned, totally unplanned rest day.

Yes, the famous WI State Fair Cream Puffs! I challenge anyone to eat 3 in one sitting!! I am quite convinced they contain all the 5 main groups of foods :)

Hmm...now I wander if I should have monitored the HR during this drill..

Running (Trail Paved) 1:22:38 [2] 8.5 mi (9:43 / mi)
ahr:155 max:178 shoes: NB 1060

Up north my usual trail..solo, cause I couldn't get up to run w/ the ultrarunners. Maybe the spotted cows the night before had something to do w/ it :)

My old iPod was throwing fits midway..so it may be time to upgrade. Hmmm....tempting.

Note
rhr:48 slept:8.0 (rest day)

Slept like a baby. No injuries, No sickness, how awesome is that??!! Rest today so I can do my log run tomorrow. I am getting pretty good about getting up early for this run.

I didn't actually measure my Resting HR, I just assume it's the same.

Running (Treadmill) 18:18 [4] 2.0 mi (9:09 / mi)
ahr:163 max:174 rhr:48 slept:9.0 shoes: NB 1060

And...we're back on track. This heat training does not seem to work well for me, so I'm going to rely on treadmill and my new 6 podrunner songs, when the weather is not cooperating.

And that seems to do the job just fine, as today I have one more record in my running history: ran 1 mile w/ 8'34" min mile...So, now that I managed to impress myself, I'll be carefull not to cramp up or do anything stupid to mess w/ my coming up CO trip.

oh, and I finally measured my rHR just before getting up.

Stretch/Strength (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [2]
ahr:90 max:136 shoes: NB 1060

The usual. No idea how I got my HR to 136 during this. This is as mellow cardio as you can imagine. Maybe when I ran in the back to get some weights...
