Orienteering 37:06 [4] 5.8 km (6:24 / km)
shoes: Saucony Power Ride 6 red

Orienteering at Kinsmen. Runners course, a lot of it at the U of A

Positives:
-3.5 minutes faster than Roland/Paul. It took me until September last year to get those sort of results coming off of my foot injury.

-Good to see people again, especially Meghan Rance, who is in town mapping.

Negatives:
-Walked up part of the river valley going up to the U of A. My lower back was really tight and had to stop 3-5 times to stretch out for 10-15 seconds. Lost around 1.5 minutes on these 2 things combined.

-Will was 4.5 minutes faster, and he had a cross country running race earlier.

Still have a ways to go speed wise, but I am right in my range of typical performances for summers 2008-2013, so this is a good starting point.

Note

Didn't really train this winter. Have been trying to get back into running shape since mid-March, and am finally at the point where I am ready to start seriously training for the summer.

It has been a long journey the last couple of years, with going to Australia, my foot injury, getting made redundant, and now working a series of temporary contracts back in Alberta, but my life is finally starting to stabilize.

Unfortunately this training log is going to be quite boring. I am trying a highly experimental training program that I conceived last fall. A big part of my goal setting includes improved results at big North American races. Hopefully I can make it to COCs/NAOCs this year, but it depends on my work schedule. As a result of this, I am going to leave details of my training sparse. I can see 4 possible outcomes:

1. I will be a podium threat in specific disciplines
2. I will get injured
3. I will give up on my training in my next stint up in Fort McMurray
4. The training will be completely ineffective

If the outcome is 1, I don't want to reveal my training secrets to my competitors. I won't really have a good idea for another 3 months or so (ie. COCs at the earliest).
