Running long 1:45:00 [2]
shoes: new balance 1025

Long run at Mont Royal. Brought a map, but don't think I can log this as orienteering training because I didn't plan any exercizes or anything. Just felt lethargic for some reason on this run and really had problems keeping myself moving forwards at times.

Note

Winter training program week 4/20, 5/5 hours this week, 20/20 total, 20% complete overall. I thought that by getting back into training seriously it would help with my focus issues, but have really had problems being mentally disciplined this week. I don't know if it is because I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the new city and my project work or if it is because of the fading daylight which has been especially noticeable this year after spending all summer outside in the Arctic.

Running hills 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: new balance 1025

Hill training at Mont Royal. After my last hill training (3*2 hill sets) decided that I needed to do more hill reps as the workout wasn't gruelling enough. Did 3*3 hill reps this time and it was a much more effective workout. Almost didn't manage to drag myself out the front door today but was glad that I did. Felt strong and loose throughout the workout which I think is a good sign.

Basketball 40:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance 790

10 minutes warmup, 3*10 minute games at the Tomlinson Fieldhouse. Wasn't terribly effective but we were playing 4 on 4 halfcourt and there wasn't a lot of room out there.

Running intervals 12:02 [5] 4.0 km (3:01 / km)
shoes: New Balance 790

10*400m intervals at the Tomlinson Fieldhouse. Did 4 intervals in a 20 minute break between basketball games and did the other 6 intervals after. What a difference 3 weeks of effective training and new lightweight running shoes made! Shaved off 46s compared to Oct. 20 (the first day of my new training program). My target time was 72s per interval, and I was super happy to more or less achieve that. Found that I was able to avoid the 73s+ intervals for the most part when I hammered through the first turn (50m) and then tried to stay strong after around a 34s first lap compared to when I tried to run an even pacing and ran around a 36s first lap. Managed to stay loose, legs never got stiff on me at all during this workout.

Running 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: new balance 1025

Ran to drop off the cheque for the Mont Royal Score O, the guy lived on the other side of the mountain right by Summit Park in Westmount. The best part was when I was climbing up Mont Royal the second time and my legs were burning and I really wanted a quick rest at the top but instead I HTFU and hammered through the next 5 minutes or so. Felt a really satisfying burn and that is how you become lean and mean.
