Orienteering race 21:36 [5] 3.1 km (6:58 / km)
spiked:13/18c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #8, SFU. Some areas had 3 levels, so were technically unmappable and confusing as hell unless one had an extremely discerning eye. Screwed the 2nd control when I ran into the parkade and lost about a minute and a half trying in vain to find an exit. Was alright after that except had to be really slow and careful in some sections. total time loss of about 2:25

Orienteering race 22:20 [5] 3.3 km (6:46 / km)
spiked:18/23c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #8 at SFU. Chase start based on results of first sprint for top 15 runners, I had 7th seed. Super fun and intense. Got screwed again with the levels on control #6, blew about 40s and allowed the runner in front of me who I had passed and the runner behind me to catch me. Had 3 butterfly loops at the end where I lost about 20 seconds on one of the controls and allowed a couple guys to pass me. Finished in the same position that I started. about 105s time loss

Orienteering race 17:25 [4] 2.2 km (7:55 / km) +120m 6:13 / km
spiked:8/10c shoes: Inov8 MudClaw

10th and final sprint at Robert Burnaby, a forest event. Really low on energy so took it kind of easy. about 30s time loss.

Note

thanks to all the organizers and hosts for putting on an exceptional event, I had an unbelievable amount of fun and found the trip to be quite worthwhile

Running 19:30 [1]

various warmups/recovery runs

Orienteering 19:18 [3] 2.3 km (8:23 / km)
shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #3 at Stanley Park, follow the leader training excercize with Magnus. about 28 controls and one person has the odds printed on their map and the other the evens and together you do the entire course. Went pretty well, except for a couple little 10-15 second bobbles when attacking the control in some areas where I confused what was mapped as white and what was mapped as individual trees

Orienteering race 15:49 [5]
spiked:17/18c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #4, dog bones at Queen Elizabeth. modified score-o with 9 pairs of controls, where each pair must be visited in order before visiting any other controls. Got confused at the mass start and blew about a minute, but other than that it went well

Orienteering race 14:46 [5] 2.7 km (5:28 / km)
spiked:11/14c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #5 at BC Children's Hospital. Mike Smith started right after me so that motivated me to run a little faster. did a couple of poor route choices. total time loss of about 50s.

Orienteering intervals 17:52 [5]
spiked:18/18c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #6, O-tervals at BCIT. relatively easy navigation, made no significant errors. Ran in groups of 3 doing 6 sets of 3 forked controls. Did it in a group with Mike Smith and Thomas Nipen, as well as Patrick, Brent and Nikolai for the final 2 intervals. Super fun, actually kind of held my own although I still have a ways to go before I have elite speed

Orienteering race 14:37 [4] 2.8 km (5:13 / km)
spiked:11/14c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #7 at Queens Park. Legs just had nothing left so I was unable to reach top speed. Total time loss of about 35s.

Note

hot tub and cold bucket felt SOOO good

Note

spent about 3 hours walking around UBC exploring the beaches and rainforests after taking the better part of a week off.

Orienteering race 15:09 [5] 2.6 km (5:50 / km)
spiked:7/12c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint number 1 at UBC. getting some weird looks walking around in shorts and t-shirt, feels like mid-April to me. Good sprint, had a couple little bobbles of about 10-15s as my brain felt a little rusty, about 70s total time loss

Orienteering race 16:00 [5] 2.6 km (6:09 / km)
spiked:9/14c shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

Sprint #2, really fun around Acadia Residences. Ran into a thorn bush at 5, cutting up my shin pretty badly, then stuffed the next control. Patrick ended up catching me at 8 and we ran the rest of the way together: he ended up pulling away by about 10s at the finish because I took a poor route choice, but it was fun running with him. time loss of about 85s.
