Orienteering race 1:05:55 [5] *** 7.1 km (9:17 / km) +305m 7:39 / km
spiked:14/18c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

JWOC Relay. Pretty decent race. I was tired after a week of racing so couldn't run fast but my ankle held up well after yesterday. Made about 7 minutes of mistakes/questionable route choices. Team Canada was disqualified after Fraser mispunched. 4th North American out of 9, behind Marty, Mike and Robbie A. Our team lost to USA A and got beaten by Japan, but beat USA B.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Orienteering race 31:51 [5] 4.1 km (7:46 / km) +105m 6:53 / km
spiked:12/20c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

JWOC Middle Distance B Final. Finished 37/65, 3rd North American out of 9 behind Mike and Robbie A. I was satisfied with this race as I made no mistakes over 1 minute but I did make a few small ones totalling about 3 minutes 45 seconds. Much better than yesterday. About 1/3 of the way through I rolled my ankle pretty badly and spent about 30 seconds squirming on the ground. I got up to walk to the finish but was pleasantly surprised to be able to put weight on it so I finished the course at about 90 percent. I will be able to run tomorrow though Scott will not as he reaggrivated his ankle injury. Fraser will run 1st, Robbie 2nd and Me anchor.

Orienteering race 38:10 [5] *** 3.6 km (10:36 / km) +120m 9:05 / km
spiked:6/17c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

JWOC Middle Qualification. Was not very sharp at all and was losing time at almost every control. Not too bad until 13, where I made a 3.5 minute mistake. Lost about 9 minutes total time due to mistakes. Finished 36/43 in my heat, well outside the A final. Not happy with this race, but could have been worse

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

warmup for long distance

Orienteering race 1:55:44 [5] *** 11.1 km (10:26 / km) +495m 8:32 / km
spiked:21/27c shoes: Inov8 MudClaw

JWOC long distance race. Came 99/128, respectable but not superb. Started off with a dumb 4.5 minute mistake on control 2 and then forced myself to slow down and really focus on the map after that and I was fairly clean until the final 2km loop where I was just exhausted and made a couple 30s mistakes as well as a 1 min and a 3 min one. Made about 11.5 minutes of pure navigational mistakes, but I lost a lot of time due to not having much speed for the last half of the course and by really having to slow down, almost excessively, to read the map in parts. 5th North American finisher, behind Mike, Scott, Robbie and Marty. Did not have the legs for the fastest finish split, finishing 2 seconds behind in the sprint and a massive 6 seconds behind in the Long. Pehaps I can bring the heat in the Middle races?

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

warmup for sprint

Orienteering race 19:09 [5] *** 3.25 km (5:54 / km) +25m 5:40 / km
spiked:10/18c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

JWOC Sprint at Western Plains Zoo. Not a very good race, finished 102/128. First 1/3 of course was absolute garbage with a bunch of short legs where I got really confused, making a 30s mistake on 3, a 30s mistake on 4 and a 1 min mistake on 7 where I was confused about the fences and out of bounds areas. Then Scott caught me despite starting 2 minutes after me and I ran pretty well after that, dropping Scott on the long leg but then I made a couple of dumb little 10s mistakes at the very end because I was tired. About 2 min 40s of mistakes. Lots of other people had mistakes and I ended up getting the 6th North American time out of 10.

Event: JWOC 2007

Orienteering 48:30 [1] *** 3.9 km (12:26 / km)
spiked:12/19c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

JWOC Model at Quarry Hill. Garbage navigation, not crisp at all, about 7 minutes total mistakes. It looks like there will be a lot of crap rock and deadfall on the ground that will slow down the winning times to 7 minutes per kilometer. Opening ceremony today had some interesting Aboriginal dancers and digeredoo players, it was fun marching with the big Canadian flag through the streets in the parade.

Note

Was supposed to go training at Kahli's rocks today but the road on the way to the map was too slippery to go up in our van due to the rain so we chilled by the pool instead

Orienteering 39:46 [3] *** 5.98 km (6:39 / km)
spiked:18/22c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

Middle training at Gumble Pinnacles. Excellent run navigationally, only running at about 80%, 1 minute total mistakes. Only Ross Smith was faster in about 38 minutes. Excellent confidence booster. I scraped my face, hands and leg when I missed my footing on a cliff drop and smacked hard into a rock.

Orienteering 26:00 [5]
shoes: Inov8 MudClaw

Relay training exercize at Gumble Creek. Mass start, 2 loops of 4 controls done in partners. The group I was in made a bunch of mistakes and we were second in both times. Scott and I got second behind Mike and Malcolm (out of 6 teams)

Orienteering 19:30 [5] *
spiked:16/18c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

Sprint practice at Bloomfield. Second fastest North American, only running at about 85 percent. Only about 10s total mistakes, clean run navigationally.

Orienteering 1:31:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 MudClaw

partner exercize at Seldom Seen. Not very good on the controls where I was leading, between Scott and I we made 20 minutes of errors. Horrible running, tons of deadfall and rock.

Orienteering 1:11:00 [2] ***
spiked:2/5c shoes: Inov8 MudClaw

Training at Gumble Creek, Long leg practice. Really had a bad day today. Nailed the first control, got a 15 minute error out of my system at 2, made a 3 minute error on 3, absolutely impaled myself on a stick at 4, and walked/jogged the last control while not paying very close attention to my map.
