Hiking 1:00:00 [1]

Geology field school, hiking around in the field from 8am until 530

Saturday Apr 26, 2008 #

Running 40:00 [3]

turns out that I can't train effectively and study for finals at the same time. Finally cracked above +10 for the first time in over a week today. Off to geology field school for the next two weeks, get to look at rocks in Jasper and drink beer and get credits for it.

Strength/Flexibility 20:00 [2]

the 'January in April' experience ended today, after 4 consecutive days of low temperatures (-10, -20 windchill), high wind and blowing snow (1 foot total)

Sunday Apr 20, 2008 #

Strength/Flexibility 20:00 [2]

still busy with finals

Thursday Apr 17, 2008 #

Running 42:00 [2]

watching playoff hockey and studying for finals has taken up the bulk of my time in the last week

Saturday Apr 12, 2008 #

Running long 1:25:00 [2]

Friday Apr 11, 2008 #

Basketball 30:00 [1]

Thursday Apr 10, 2008 #

Running 23:00 [4] 5.4 km (4:16 / km)

ran at a decent clip to the bridge

Running 17:00 [2]

and ran easy after the bridge

Note

methinks I need some new runners

Cycling 10:00 [3]

Other (rowing machine) 10:00 [2]

Strength/Flexibility 15:00 [3]

variety of machines at the gym, mostly lower body and core

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

10 minutes for the warmup, 10 minutes for the cool down

Running intervals 12:44 [4] 3.4 km (3:45 / km)

Tried to do some 1km intervals (with 2 minutes rest) but felt out of shape and kind of died midway through the 4th interval (I was planning on doing 5)
Times: 3:43.0, 3:44.0, 3:45.9, 1:30.8 (400m, on pace for my time goal of 3:45). I don't think that my lunch of pizza, fries, coke and a beer exactly helped my workout today, and it might take me a couple of weeks before I start to get my speed back.

Running 2:36 [2] 0.6 km (4:20 / km)

the pathetic finish to my fourth interval

Cycling (stationary) 20:30 [3]

lucked out a bit on my first day of the program, lowballing the length (2/6). I have 1 dice to determine the activity and 1 to determine the length.

Note

Started a new training program today, inspired by Bill Jarvis' idea of rolling dice to determine the activity and the length of time. Have a very crude outline planned for this week. Will refine it a little bit more if I like it.

Running 51:20 [3]
shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

Run through the River Valley with 3 inches of fresh snow making trail running more like terrain running simulation. Legs felt decent, lungs felt decent, core is hopelessly out of shape. 3 weeks until the orienteering season, 7 weeks until City Chase, now I have something definitive to train for. Hopefully I can get out of first gear when it comes to training and don't get too sidetracked by final exams coming up
