Cycling 15:00 [3]

went to the gym today for the first time this semester. Took advantage of the temporary lull between term papers and finals (I know I should start studying, but 2 weeks away = out of sight, out of mind)

Strength/Flexibility 40:00 [3]

fairly extensive strength training at the gym. The time given is just the time on the machines and does not include rests between sets.

Other (rowing machine) 15:00 [4]

Running 10:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

cool down on track

Note

today was the first -20 day of the year, and I am far from acclimatized so far (need about a week before I get the antifreeze flowing through my veins again).

Note

So it is going to be a prarie Grey Cup, Saskatchewan vs. Winnipeg. I have to say that is the matchup I was hoping for, I was getting sick of all the Toronto, Montreal and BC matchups (but not Edmonton of course). Two teams with excellent fanbases and in major need of a championship to end their droughts. I have to say that I will be cheering for the Bombers, it would be great for Milt Stegall to win a Grey Cup and I am sick of all the Rider Priders in Edmonton.

Orienteering race 35:32 [4] 3.7 km (9:36 / km)
spiked:12/14c shoes: Inov8 MudRoc

Unseasonably warm weather in Edmonton and no snow meant that we had an orienteering meet on one of our updated, most technically detailed city maps in Queen Elizabeth Park. Finished in 2nd, 2 minutes behind Wil Critchley. Was leading until the 12th control in a super detailed contour area where I had a poor attack and lost 3 minutes and the lead. Made about 4 minutes total mistakes but generally was pretty solid navigationally. Was pretty strong for the first 20 minutes and then I started to get tired.

Orienteering 23:00 [1]

after the race I jogged to pick up some controls and did a map walk in the super detailed area to see where I went wrong (passed within 3 meters of the control but was on the other side of a knoll)

Running 35:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Trigon 4

an easy run to get into the feeling of running again

Note

After my JWOC career ended last July, I took a much needed physical and mental break. However, when school started again I had neither the time or motivation to start training again. I made a couple of half-hearted attempts, but none lasted more than a week. Recently though, I have started to feel my physical condition deteriorating somewhat. So today I have decided to start training for COC 2008. I have to say, I enjoyed being a national calibre athlete, even if I wasn't a very good one, and it is going to be hard at first to train without that pushing me forward.
