Orienteering race (SA - Lansdowne) 27:09 [0] 3.91 km (6:57 / km)
shoes: Brooks

Great event at Lansdowne Park today for World Orienteering Day! Thanks to the organizing team and all the volunteers!

Fun sprint map through pretty neat urban scenery, with a wee bit of forest running in there too.

An enjoyable outing in perfect spring weather. However, majorly lost my concentration near the end after a brief stop to chat with another orienteer who was dismayed about a mistake they had made. As we parted ways I lost track of where I was, which building was which, and took a while to get back on the map. I guess mistakes in orienteering can be contagious! (although I had made my share of mistakes earlier in the course too...)

Orienteering race (SA - Lac Philippe) 1:34:10 [0] 7.14 km (13:11 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

Never a good thing when the first control takes you almost twenty minutes. Was I ever off on that one, and I wasn't even moving quickly... Mistook the first hill in the yellow for the second hill, and it all went downhill -- then uphill -- then downhill -- then uphill -- zigzagging every which way -- from there. Kept running into 48 which was on a different course, and for the life of me couldn't make sense of things to find 44 until eventually stumbling upon it. Even after finishing the course and going back to try that first leg again, still couldn't do it on the first try by trying to follow the re-entrants -- and yes, once again landed on 48 before finding 44. Contours will surely be my life-long struggle in orienteering!

Stumped about what happened with missing 8... It would seem I forgot to actually visit it? GPS track doesn't show me landing there, although my watch is often off by quite a bit so I'm not sure how accurate it was in this case. Ah well, it was a challenging course for me with some really bad legs so just as well to MP today, I suppose.

Stamina today was fine, although minimal running.

Meet prep (terrain checking) 2:00:00 [0]

Leisurely stroll with the McCarthy map and the dogs, checking for potential map updates.

Orienteering race (SA -- Pinhey's Point) 33:30 [0] 4.6 km (7:17 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Trail Talon 250

Funny how easy it is to make mistakes on straightforward terrain when you don't pay full enough attention! Fun course though.

Major stamina issue today, felt sluggish and out of breath, had to walk for a few bits on the "long" legs, not sure where this came from. And the hill going up to 21 -- fuhgeddaboudit!

Think it will be best to take it easy tomorrow and not try to race, just have an easy pace and focus on navigation, especially with all those contours which are definitely not my strong point (not that I have any strong points, ha!).
