Orienteering race 1:11:11 [2]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

COC Middle Open course 4 at Foley Mountain. A most embarassing and disappointing event for me. Got stuck in the Lost Vortex at control 6, which resulted in a few relocations that cost me a very, very, very, large amount of time. All of the other controls were hit quite reasonably well, so it was a great and frustrating disappointment for me. Definitely need more practice. The up-side? I didn't give up, although the temptation was there.
Twisting my ankle at the fourth control and taking a few good tumbles didn't help with my focus or confidence either. I guess I need to toughen up! The terrain was not meant for running on - it was very rocky (small, wobbly, slippery ones!). I helped a lady who had fallen and couldn't get back up just before control 2. Hope she finished her course in good shape. Was happy to see that both Andrew and Francis had excellent results on their courses.

Running (SJAMP) 36:00 [3] 6.3 km (5:43 / km)

Easy run along the river. It started pouring 1.5 km into the run, but it was fun!
Time and disrance are approximate.

Cycling 40:00 [3] 15.0 km (2:40 / km)
shoes: Shimano WR61 clip-ins

First ride on my newly refurbished and updated 30-yr-old Bianchi! Love the clip-in mechanism, and was amazed at how great the bike rode. Rebek and Kroes did a really good job! Enjoyed the ride along the river to Island Park. Gorgeous morning :)

Orienteering long 2:00:00 [3] 7.0 km (17:09 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Intermediate 'modern' course at 50th Anniversary Retro Meet - Camp Fortune.
Hiked up the ski hill 850m to start. Did Burt W's intermediate course - some tricky spots, as flags were hard to see due to abundant (and high) foliage. i know I was 'at' the controls long before I could spot them!!!
Overall time on course was 1:43.19, but again I lost 40 minutes over two of the controls! Frustrating. After punching the finish control, I opted to run the remaining 700m or so to the download, which brought my overall milage to about 7km.
I heard from many that the retro courses were hell, so maybe I shouldn't complain! The woods were beautiful, albeit buggy and muggy. Enjoyed talking to Anne, Mary Ellen, Christie, Burt, and many other O folks as Andrew and I had a hot dog/hamburger and rested a bit. Francis came in from the Red course, glad to have survived it, but somewhat frustrated at the effort. Andrew came in third in his Advanced modern course, and I finished 8th amongst 16 or 17 people, many of whom DNF'd or MP'd. I guess I'm happy that I finished the course successfully!

Orienteering (Short practice) 15:26 [2] 2.0 km (7:43 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Gentle jog/walk O-warm-up at Eco-wellness Centre while Francis set up some flags for the training day. Very, very buggy!

Running hills 32:47 [4] 5.33 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-Kayano 22

S-loop run followed by 6 x 30 sec hills on gravel hill at end of Ivanhoe Ave.
Very hot and sunny. Felt tired, slogged it. Felt hungry, so maybe that was just a lack of fuel kicking in.

Running long (LSD) 1:03:07 [3] 10.5 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-Kayano 22

Wonderful LSD run along the river. Sunny, slight breeze, 25 degrees; perfect. Ran out to safety lights and back. Kept each km to 6 min, and took all the river side-loops on the way back, including Duckie Point. Felt great!
Perfect way to run off the one and only poutine I've ever eaten (yesterday) - never again!!!
Hamstrings and butt stiff from all the forest terrain yesterday, but this run got the kinks out.
