Note

It actually came into my head at 5 that Andis was on Blue. And yep....sure enough. What a fool. Need to focus on my game...nobody else’s.
9 AM

Orienteering 1:17:51 [3] 10.52 km (7:24 / km) +330m 6:24 / km
ahr:133 max:155

More the same as yesterday. I was planning on just concentrating on running clean. But at the start Andis (in front) and Tom (behind) showed up. So I thought lets give this ago. Stupid idea.
Andis went off in the wrong direction from the fence so when I went off I thought I'd catch him. When I got to 1 I couldn't find it. Andis came blasting past so I thought I was wrong and so I ran off into oblivion. Eventually got back to 1 just to make an horrific 90 degree error. From that put on I just jogged round pissed off.
At least the first 2 days were positive. Back to the drawing board. No more O until nationals so I've no idea where the technical improvement will come from.
Great weekend with the bairns. Kendal won (only competitor) but she's comfortable going out on her own. So now Eadie can get some attention. Hopefully next time we're here it'll be a national championships. Lovely spot to visit.

There's not enough webspace to walkabout control 6. Another perfect storm.

ahr:141 max:160

Pelican Bay Orienteering.
Started very shaky and had a calamitous error at 3. Lost about 7mins. Overran it to another boulder and then ambled around until I relocated near the road. Still had problems seeing it when I was at it. Dropped another clanger at 6. 3 mins. Then the rest was solid. Grew into it. Never took water which was touch and go at times ( had the squits after, very dehydrated). Really felt the course today. I was sure the wheels would come off at the end.
5th 8mins behind winner, Graham Baird.

Orienteering 37:34 [3] 5.95 km (6:19 / km) +145m 5:38 / km
ahr:147 max:161

Granite Planite Orienteering. This was my type of technical. Tricky but when you get to the circle you can see it. All too often I find in technical areas if I'm not bang on I lose seconds just scrambling around undergrowth trying to get close. Altitude was a definite factor. I think I lost 2 mins memorising/rechecking control codes because I was overloading my brain.
The mistakes...... #7 1min because I went across the dry marsh to the wrong hill.
# 21 45secs ran to 22 first because I could see it. Knew I was wrong.
#24 25secs overran. There are others I apparently made mistakes on but I never noticed. #12 being one. Not having the map at hand I don't know.
Loved every minute of it. Like an open Brimham Rocks w/ altitude.
3rd Place. Niels Olson-Ling beat me by 5mins.

Running 53:33 [3] 11.28 km (4:45 / km) +6m 4:44 / km
ahr:138 max:164

This was interesting. A ton of mistakes happen for me at threshold. Especially
running to the wrong control marked on the map (LBJ Grasslands, Dana Peak just two) . So today I took the Hangman map out with me on the Rice loop to do 6x1k. On the 3rd rep I imagined/picked the route to the wrong control and I wasn't even in the terrain. How rubbish is that!! I was knackered after 4 reps and binned it totally demoralised. Thought I might move on after Denmark but it's been backwards. Especially the fitness aspect. Wyoming is not looking good.
The k's 3:50, 3:43, 4:00, 4:01. w/ 90 secs recovery.

Running 31:15 [3] 6.46 km (4:50 / km) +1m 4:50 / km

Easy turned into steady w/ middle WMOC map. Bit of a slog at the end with the temperature.
Tweaked RML last night on an overinflated ball. Really sore this morning.
