Walking (vetting) 35:00 [1] * 2.06 mi (17:00 / mi) +100m 14:46 / mi
28c slept:9.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8 - 3

I walked to vet most of the Brew HA-HA Street Scramble course. I was out for 3.5 hours, including stops, but even most of the walking time was at less than training intensity.

My injured left achilles hurt some of the time (and not at all at other/most times), although it seemed more like a lower soleus muscle or soleus/achilles junction injury.

Note
slept:9.5 (rest day)

I got 7.5 hours sleep at night, then a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, on the bus ride from Fort Worden to ISB. I was tired for most of the day. I attended a few talks, including the inspiring closing talk by Lee Hood, on ISB's next 10+ years.

My ankle/achilles injury was stiff in the morning, as usual, but it wasn't too inflamed during the day. Still, it continues to hurt during normal activities, like walking on uneven surfaces or down stairs. It hurts when hyperflexing or pronating, but not when hyperextending (without load), and heavy loading during flexion continues not being a problem.

Orienteering (sprint) 5:00 [1] *** 0.58 mi (8:40 / mi)
5c slept:1.8 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8 - 3

I jogged to vet some controls for the ISB vampire O at Fort Worden. My ankle/achilles area is still a bit painful during most activity.

My left achilles area was still quite stiff and sore in the morning but loosened up and felt better as the day progressed.

Driving the rest of the way home from Laramie with Terry. We stayed at and can recommend the Tops Motel in Rupert, ID, off I-84 exit 211. We got a fine room with Wi-Fi at a bargain price.

My ankle/achilles is quite sore today.

Running - Trail / Grass warm up/down 5:40 [2] 0.67 mi (8:30 / mi) +10m 8:07 / mi
ahr:122 max:153 slept:7.5 shoes: VJ Twister (US size 10.5) - 4

I went for a short warm-up run before the goat.

Orienteering race (goat) 1:19:58 intensity: (4:00 @2) + (1:05:58 @3) + (10:00 @4) *** 14.06 km (5:41 / km) +300m 5:08 / km
ahr:164 max:177 24c shoes: VJ Twister (US size 10.5) - 4

I ran the Rocky Mountain Goat at the excellent Remarkable Flats map. I may add more later, but I mostly pushed hard, leading most of the way and edging out Owen Baird and Jordan Laughlin.

I give myself an A for the physical performance and a B- for the technical performance, since I repeatedly ran hard to make a break, only to make a small miss and allow Owen and Jordan to catch back up.

Left ankle/achilles report: I rolled it hard once, I think to the outside, and it sort of hurt below the outside ankle bone protuberance for about the first half of the race. I felt a pop in my achilles tendon, and it hurt a bit--just a very little bit--during the race, but it became quite sore and stiff afterward and during the beginning of the drive home.
