Note

Today's race marks my third silver medal at the U.S. Relay Championships. The others were in 1995 and 1997. My COC team placed third in 2001 and has placed out of the medals several times. COC has won gold, though: Ryan, Kelsey, Eileen and Rick Breseman won the 12-point category in 2004, after taking taking the silver medal in the 8-point category in 2003.

On the one hand, I sure would like to win the U.S. Relay Championships one of these times, but on the other hand, second place is nothing to sneeze at! Still, DVOA has won 10 and NEOC and RMOC have each won 6, so COC has it's work cut out for it, along with other large and talented clubs, such as BAOC and QOC, which have also each only won once.

Flying Pig middle race at McFarlan Woods. I had a solid run, with just a few small mistakes. I felt good, and pushed a bit but not too hard. I ran up all the hills.

Running - Trail / Grass (some road, too) 1:06:23 intensity: (58:00 @2) + (6:25 @3) + (1:58 @5) ** 8.3 mi (8:00 / mi) +375m 7:01 / mi
ahr:146 max:168 6c slept:4.5 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8 - 2

I went for a run to pick up some checkpoint streamers after the BEAST race. It rained the whole time but wasn't too cold. I wore an extra lightweight wicking shirt as insurance against the wind, and I was quite comfortable. It was blowing pretty hard in the Highlands, and the small rain droplets were blowing sideways. My legs felt pretty good, and I ran fairly briskly, pushing some on a couple of the climbs (approaching threshold pace) and doing 4 x 50 fast strides in 29-31 sec, two somewhat uphill, one mostly flat and one gently downhill.
