Note
slept:6.6 (injured) (sick)

I didn't feel sick today, except that the lymph nodes in my neck are still swollen, and my resting heart rate is still elevated. My ankle felt fine this morning, after having hurt some last night starting fairly early in the run. It hurt again after racing today.

Note
slept:7.6 (injured) (sick)

I slept in three or four stints, divided among my flights and layovers. I was routed Seattle=>Atlanta=>Detroit=>Binghamton, so there were lots of chances to catch a few winks.

Orienteering (control pick-up) 53:55 intensity: (13:55 @1) + (40:00 @2) *** 5.2 km (10:22 / km) +125m 9:15 / km
ahr:127 max:152 10c shoes: VJ Twister (US size 10.5) - 3

I picked up controls at night after ROC's Mendon Ponds score-O event. I took it easy and didn't feel too good, with some pain starting in my ankle almost immediately. I also got somewhat hypoglycemic after 20-30 minutes and felt really lethargic, but I rebounded a little later. I took some sub-optimal and round-about routes on a few controls, in order to avoid going through marsh or nasty vegetation.

Note
slept:8.0 (injured) (sick) (rest day)

After feeling somewhat better last night, my cold has had a bit of a resurgence, and my lymph nodes are more swollen again today. I also have a bit of a sinus headache, with painful pressure in my forehead when I lean over. I still have no itchiness, congestion or related symptoms. My ankle continues to hurt some when I twist the joint, bend it too much, or put too much load on it.

Running - Road / Track 4:30 intensity: (1:30 @2) + (3:00 @3) 0.45 mi (10:00 / mi) +5m 9:40 / mi
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8

Running to the bus stop with my luggage to go to the airport.

Note
slept:9.5 (injured) (sick)

I'm getting a sore throat this morning, I guess from one of the several ill people I've been around lately--bad timing.

Running - Trail / Grass (map run) 37:25 [2] ** 4.4 mi (8:30 / mi) +65m 8:08 / mi
ahr:141 max:155 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8

I went for an easy map run around Magnuson from the office in the evening. My lymph nodes are pretty swollen and sore, but my legs felt pretty zippy, and my ankle barely hurt at all. I turned it outward once on a bumpy part of the trail (it was getting dark), and it didn't hurt a bit. I turned it again later, this time to the inside, and it did hurt some after that.

Note
slept:3.5 (injured) (rest day)

My ankle bounced back quickly from yesterday's orienteering. Even last night, it felt pretty good. It still hurts some, particularly under load or when pronated too far, but it does not seem to be suffering increased inflammation from the increasing activity level.

Running - Road / Track warm up/down (some dirt road) 12:43 [2] 1.85 mi (6:52 / mi) +40m 6:27 / mi
ahr:142 max:155 slept:7.3 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8

I went for a somewhat brisk warm up run before orienteering at Lick Creek. My legs are somewhat fatigued and fairly sore from Thursday's intervals, and the adductors are particularly sore. My ankle hurt some but not much.

Orienteering race (classic) 52:16 intensity: (32:16 @2) + (20:00 @3) *** 7.2 km (7:16 / km) +280m 6:05 / km
max:167 14c shoes: VJ Twister (US size 10.5) - 3

After spending a bunch of time taping my left ankle to keep it from bending too far in any direction, I ran course 3 at Lick Creek. The course was a bit easy but fun, and I pushed fairly well for the first half or so, at which point the course started going downhill (usually a good thing, but not on a recovering ankle) and got a bit trickier.

By this time, the tape--which I had looped too high on my soleus muscle--had worked its way down some and slackened, and it was doing little to control the motion of the ankle over the uneven ground. My ankle was hurting fairly steadily at this point, and I had to slow down to a modest pace. At the start of the course, my legs had been burning (going uphill) and my ankle had felt fine, but by the end the situation was opposite.

I concentrated okay for most of the run, but I started to get a bit lazy when I had to slow down toward the end of the course, and I lost 2.5 minutes on a tricky control (#10).
