SA Sprint Champs - Sabie
Originally planned to take this race nice and easy so I'd be strong for the rest of the weekend. I was one of the last starters so I got to hear about the slow, rough terrain and figured it suited me so I decided to go for it. Paced my run well - slow but steady and made almost no mistakes. Had trouble getting out of the area of ruins to my 2nd last control and had a few other small hesitations but otherwise it was smooth. Good enough for the win - rather surprisingly. Certainly wasn't the race I thought i'd do well in this weekend.

Gauteng Champs Middle. Mokobulaan - Doornhoek South.

Had a very bad run! The course was challenging and I had the wrong approach. Struggled to get into the scale for most of the course and my visualization was bad. Some areas just made no sense to me.
Was slightly left to #1, relocated off the road - lost about a minute.
Missed #3. Relocated off the road. Still a bit far south - lost about 1'30.
#6 was the big disaster of the day. Relocated 3 times - Craig was also in the area looking - he eventually found it and called me over. Felt clueless - couldn't make the map fit the rocks. (10 min mistake).
#9 was another disaster. Hit the road junction then used a line of rocks to guide me in. Not where I expected so relocated off the road and tried again. Walked in and found it. (5 mins).
Rest of the course was straight forward. Still had a lot in the legs so tried to pick up the pace. Probably one of my worst runs ever. Bit of a shock and a big knock to the confidence. Michele winning in 37 minutes also didn't make me feel any better. Managed to laugh about it with everyone else who had disastrous runs though.

Sprint series final at UJ. Great course planning by Brian. Fantastic prep for Jwoc!
Didn't have a great race. Didn't feel good warming up - niggly shin and no fire in the legs. Also had to work really hard to maintain concentration throughout. Had a 10 sec hesitation going into #1, lost 40 sec on #6 - misread the control description, 30 sec leaving #10 - map was a bit confusing with multi levels but the main problem was not planning ahead properly. Crawled into the finish pushing hard but moving slowly.
Steph won by miles. I ended up 5th.
