@ Gunston Hall
Jeremy's out of town today and I had no childcare, so I brought both Vince and Edda. Vince wanted to try Brown instead of Orange because the shorter distance & fewer controls appealed to him & also perhaps the increased difficulty. This was fine and I think he enjoyed it even though he missed a bunch in the middle, I'm not sure what he is doing out there as he generally doesn't want to hear any advice from me. Not that I have a lot of advice to give.
Before he left for his business trip, Jeremy encouraged me earlier this week to take Edda and try to take her on the beginner course. I told him I wasn't sure she could walk the whole mile-ish loop and he said - of course she can walk a mile! I was doubtful. Actually I was most worried about having her walk half the loop and then refusing to budge anymore and then I'd be stuck furthest from start point and then I'd have to figure out how to fetch her wheelchair while abandoning her in the rescuing process. I'm sure it would have been fine and someone would have helped me, but I get anxious about these things. The absolute zero elevation gain was extremely helpful as the field was as treacherous as Edda & I could manage. I walked with my body behind her with my arms embracing her from behind. I think she really liked orienteering which surprised me. Does she get that we are looking for things? Does she like a competition? I'm not sure. It was a delight for me to be with her today. There were a couple of points she was laughing going through a leafy areas. Though she was complaining before we started, she really did not complain the whole hour we were walking.
I texted Jeremy a few photos and he said - Wow, her first meet!
Then we went out to sushi lunch.
