Orienteering race (7.38km 8.9 min/km) 1:05:41 [4] 5.9 km (11:08 / km) +200m 9:31 / km

Gay City near Hebron, CT, organized by WCOC. Cold day in sharp contrast to yesterday, about 38 degrees at start. Great running conditions, ran red, forest floor was pretty clear which made for good running. Felt sorry for the organizers who had to sit still in the cold. Thank you for a great event!

Made a couple of annoying errors, 9 minutes in total.
#2, strayed too far south for some reason. Saw Joe behind me which may have made me rush! I assumed he was running red but actually he did green...just shows you not to pay attention to other runners. Mistook the wet area south of the swamp for the northern part of the swamp, and searched a little on the hill, then relocated back to the trail and realized the mistake. Classic parallel error, 4+ minutes.

#8, a little to the E on attack, 10s.

#10, I stayed too high and there were several more boulders than mapped so I looked at two before realizing I was too high and to the south, 40 secs.

#11, think the map may be a little off here. I came down the hill and saw a boulder in the swamp which matched to where the contour lines were and the southern part of the swamp. But no control! I couldn't see another boulder to my south (though must have been 20m from it). Looked closely at the contour lines and concluded I was too far S so started searching N, and seriously thought that the control was missing as I thought "my"boulder was exactly where the control should be. But after meandering north slowly for a while, sanity prevailed and I decided that a missing bag was less likely than me being wrong...turned back south and then saw it. Although the control was placed at the larger boulder, "my" boulder should also have been mapped, I think the larger boulder was further south, and the contour lines seemed off as well. Lost 4+ mins according to splits, surprised I spent so much time in confusion here.

Overall a hugely enjoyable run though, felt much better physically than yesterday and ran pretty fast (for me!).

Orienteering race (7.44km 10.15 min/km) 1:15:29 [3] 6.4 km (11:48 / km) +256m 9:50 / km

Muscoot Farm, organized by HVO. Ran red, hot day and felt much hotter than it was (about 75). Think I may have had a stomach bug, either way felt very sluggish most of the race, ran slowly...Also helped setting out controls for White in the morning (1.8km), and took in 7 controls from red and green in the afternoon (3.5km). Was exhausted when I came back, drank tons of water and felt drained all day, even slept somewhat badly. Maybe heat exhaustion, more likely an upset stomach affected me.

It was so warm the ticks were out which I was unprepared for, found one on me while showering (pulled out without problem), but worse, another one the next morning. Hopefully no damage done.

Zero navigation mistakes so good run in that sense. Only issue I got badly stuck in brambles on way to 14, had to snake my way through the mess which is much denser than the map indicates.
