Note

You probably wont believe it but we got delayed again in alice springs but only for 2hrs. Apparently there was heavy fog in melbourne and adelaide causing the delays. Got to adelaide in time for our next flight but they had put us on another flight about 3hrs later. Got home at 11.44pm. So spent more time travelling too and from the event then i did out on the course.

Rogaine race (Aus Champs) 4:30:00 [4] 15.0 km (18:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-1110

After 5 attempts kieran eventually woke me up at 6.30 . Took me about 20mins to get ready and we were on the road just before 7. Legs were pretty tight still but not too bad. Left big toe was rooted from a blister underneath the nail. Got a nice cruisey route out to the east which was reasonably flat and minus spinifex. Found two controls in the completely wrong spot(so much for the vetting). Was planning a bigger loop to get an extra 150points but thought we were cutting it a bit fine so cut it short. Had about half hour to spare when we got back. Finished 26th out of about 125 teams overall, 2nd in the university comp and first in the youth/U23's. Hadn't seen John after we got back so thought he was dead. He ended up getting put with this animal who has won it a number of times and who had planned a 93km course for them to do. Had seen him at 9pm the night before and he was screwed then but he managed to slog it out and got somewhere over 2200 points. Nice work buddy.

Rogaine race (Aus Champs) 15:38:00 [4] 43.0 km (21:49 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-1110

Aus Champs Rogaine. Wasn't feeling to crash hot when we started mainly from the epic yesterday and also from not having much breakfast. Was starting to stuggle about four hrs in and the spinifex was killing me but after about 7hrs everything started feeling better. Was pretty hot during the day but was worth it with the spectacular scenery. Kierans got a good description of it. Lost a bit of time in the dark on a couple of controls from tiredness and weird things happening with the map. But probably lost 1hr-1hr and a half max so not too bad. Got back to the hash house via a massive gorge at 3.45am. Smashed down a cup of pumpkin soup and a lot of cheese toasties.

Note

Got up at 4.20am to get taken to the airport at 4.45am. Got the flight to Cairns alright. Boarded the plane to alice at about 11.30 but after 20mins got turned round due to a monitoring problem. Took them forever to figure out the problem and eventually boarded 8 hrs later at 8pm. Got to the event at midnight and had to set up the tent in the dark. So it took 20hrs to travel from ipswich to alice springs. Mission and a half.

Note
(injured)

Legs were sore from intervals yesterday and the top of my calve just behind the knee was sore. Eventually it packed in at work tonight and now am limping. Perfect timing for an injury with the Aus rogaine this weekend. Hopefully it'll fix up by then.

Run intervals 35:10 [4] 6.0 km (5:52 / km)

6x 1km with 2min recovery at uni with Duncan. I actually thought i had some half decent fitness at the moment but obviously not. Wasn't feeling to bad after the first one but was dead by the third . Couldn;t stride out or anything. Think i use to run round 3.20 or under back in the day. Duncan was running round about 3.13 for each one. Times were 3.33, 3.44, 3.56, 4.06, 3.59, 3.52

Orienteering race 1:06:30 [3] *** 7.1 km (9:22 / km) +390m 7:21 / km
spiked:16/18c shoes: Puma Esito III

Morning detox run after Bens 18th. Wasnt expecting to feel so bad this morning but didnt get much sleep last night which wouldnt have helped. Started off alright and was just cruising. Hit a bit of a wall then got stuck in a shitload of lantana going to 7 so lost couple minutes there. Got a 2nd wind or sumthing and managed to attack the really fucking big hill in the NW part of the map. Ran up the wrong spur on the way to 13 and found a track going uphill instead of downhill. Last section ok but was missing control descriptions for last 2 controls and circle wasnt marked in the right spot so lost a bit more time there. Duncan carved up.

Orienteering race (Mid week event) 27:24 [3] 5.5 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-1110

This is the winner of fucking pointless dog legs for the year. Extremely boring course. Cruised round the course and was only striding out but not really pushing it. Lost some time at 7 and 9 where street o controls were used and tied onto the wrong feature (1min max). http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1151373

Orienteering race (Australian relays) 50:28 [3] *** 7.0 km (7:13 / km)
spiked:17/17c shoes: Puma Esito III

Australian relays. Was last leg runner for QLD with kieran and simon. Went out in third place or sumthing and caught the south australian guy in 2nd place. According to tristan i would beat him easily but my body was stuffed from the day before. Was struggling by the spectator. Couldnt drop the kid on the long leg to 11 but he did something there(maybe split leg) and i managed to get away. Punched 11 and sprinted out of the control to number 12 and then took off on the F!@King steep hill and saw him still going into number 12. Managed to hold the gap i had on him but Louis overtook me somewhere and we ended up in 3rd.

Orienteering race (Australian Long Champs) 1:24:53 [5] *** 10.2 km (8:19 / km) +415m 6:55 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: Puma Esito III

Aus Champs. Started off really well and was running strong. Picked up the pace on the first long leg to 6. Got a bit confused at 8 but still found it alright. The 2.5km long leg was pretty easy cause the wasnt any real route choice so went hard out on it. Nailed the next lot of controls and was still feeling strong through the spectator. Didnt read map properly going into 19 and ran over the top of it and lost 8mins. Was coming 2nd according to the splits so not too happy with it. Nailed the rest of controls. Finished 9th, 6mins down on 3rd.

Cruisey run round the river.

Orienteering race (Western Plains Challenge) 36:27 [5] *** 4.5 km (8:06 / km) +200m 6:38 / km
spiked:20/21c shoes: Puma Esito III

Was physically feeling awesome. Started off a bit slow though on the first hill but got into a fast pace by number 2. Was hitting the controls alright but was too focued on outrunning patrick saile from tas who i caught at number 1. Ended up running off the map going to 6 and lost about 4.30mins. Rest was resonably clean. Need to focus more on navigating instead of running.

River run

Orienteering race (Western Plains Challenge) 1:11:12 [5] *** 8.1 km (8:47 / km) +430m 6:57 / km
spiked:19/21c shoes: Puma Esito III

Probably cleanest run for the week. Nailed most of the controls and only lost 30secs at 13 and 1min on 20. Wasnt feeling the best run wise but better than on saturday. Only thing i could have done better was choose a better route to 8. Finished 11th.

Orienteering race (Dubbo BASH!!) 16:40 [4] 2.7 km (6:10 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-1110

Pretty pointless event. Didnt read map at all. Ran with everyone in the wrong direction for the first control then went hard till about three and got bored and cruised along. Almost got killed on one mudslide when someone crashed into me.

Event: JWOC 2007

Orienteering race (NSW Long Champs) 1:24:02 [5] *** 10.7 km (7:51 / km) +430m 6:32 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: Puma Esito III

NSW Long Champs. Legs were tight from the 10hr trip down the day before. Took a while to get legs going so only lost time on the first leg(2.5km) because of speed. Nailed all the controls in the first loop then was a bit wide on 9. Thought i saw bryan catching me so took off to the steep hill with the 5 control loop on it. Got control flow and everything right in here so not much time loss. Found out it was hanny and not bryan who was behind me cause they had similar o tops. Raced her to the next control but got burnt on the hill and was pretty dead after that. Was finishing the last couple of controls nicely but didnt see number 21 cause it was hidden well. Lost 2.30min here. Time was still competitive.

Run 17:43 [3] 4.13 km (4:17 / km) +70m 3:57 / km
shoes: Asics Gel-1110

Cruisey run round limestone/queens park. Was still tight from the weekend but nothing too bad. Focused on striding out up the hills and keeping my pace constant. Was on the usual time at 1700m split but cause it was a cruisey run wasnt going hard on the downhill. Felt pretty comfortable running up thorn st today.
