Thoughts for the weekend:

This was a very strange weekend of orienteering. On one hand, I think it was some of the best orienteering I have done in a while, on the other hand, my placements very much do not reflect that. The two races going into the weekend I was both most excited for and thought I do best in, both went very poorly place-wise. While the race I had zero expectations for, the long, I did the best in.

The middle and the sprint were both fairly frustrating races because I felt 90% of the course went excellent while the other 10% I just fell apart for. The middle I am less frustrated with because I got tired and made mistakes, that is orienteering in a nutshell. I can't just wish away a mistake regardless of how well I had been doing before that. The sprint on the hand was just me being dumb and not checking control codes. Miss punching not once but twice is pretty inexcusable and really marred an otherwise good race. I was especially annoyed by this because on finishing I had thought I ran a great race, and in truth, I did finishing with a time only 3 seconds back from Jo.

The long was by far the strangest of the races because I went in expecting to get crushed like my prior two longs and even on finishing didn't think I had done amazing. But apparently, it was a good race. The interesting thing about this long is that I took it much more controlled and relatively slower so I wouldn't get too tired. This slow pace let me stay relatively clean all the way through, besides a two-minute bobble on 5, but I expected it to lose me time to faster runners. The truth, however, was that being clean saved me more time than running faster really would have. I am going to have to remember to take it more slowly on my future longs.

All in all, though I am happy with the weekend. The courses were all a lot of fun and I felt much more confident in my orienteering abilities than I have for a while.

Very weird glitch with my watch where it measured my time and distance but really messed up the GPS. I assume I just lost GPS connection somewhere in the middle and it just stopped recording there, but idk. First image is what my GPS showed me, second image is my best guess of where I went.
