Note
slept:12.0 (sick)

Gutted to come down with a neaseaus/headache type thing after the relay. Crashed out immediatley on getting back to bed. Not much better the next morning so had to miss the Middle distance, which (not being sand dune!) I was looking forward to.

Day of rest, fluids and no food seemed to sort it out.

Organisers did a great job of matching up teams, they put three of together at a similar level so none of us felt intimidated! Aimed to just have fun on this one, and take it deliberatley.

Did lose it a couple of times but didn't screw around, the map was well backstopped so I just sprinted out to the nearest big feature and relocated off that. No mp or whoppers but overall a pretty slow run.

Ahh Woodhill sanddune terrain. Some more time with the map legend and a magnifing glass would have helped today. Lost map contact a couple of times in the low vis, intricate areas. On reflection I can see exactly where I went wrong, so pleased to take away good lessons at least. Definatley need some more time in this terrain though. Placed 5th overall and 3rd in Ocenaia for M21A, my best result to date.

Completley screwed up the first control, and then did a terrible job of relocating. Finally after several minutes, got a handle on myself and proceeded to get top splits on half the remainder of the course. Thought I got a route and orientation sorted on the run to the start triangle, but then lost it again half way into the leg - an annoying way to re-learn the lesson of not taking the first control too fast.

Through the rest of the race felt OK, not great flow, it was hard to get exit directions and the next legs planned in advance.

Not pushing it today with a big weekend coming up. Couldn't keep up with the lead pack so just dropped back to a pace I was happy to sustain.
