Orienteering race 1:11:00 [4] 7.1 km (10:00 / km) +65m 9:34 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon Blue

GAOC meet at Chattahoochee Bend S.P. Nice day, cool enough for running but not chilly at all. Overcast skies kept the sun out of your eyes.

I had a very good run. Not that I was able to run very fast, but was able to more or less run the whole course - escept for a little walking uphills and through some thick stuff. Nice to be at 10 min/km for the 7.1 km course. Actual distance ran was about 9 km so even better! Legs felt a little heavy and tired from the running and biking this week. But the orienteering went very well. Bobbled one control for about a 1 min loss and maybe 2 minutes total on everything else. Finished third overall (behind two very good twenty-somethings), beating all the teenagers (9) and the other six over thirty so you can't trust them anymore runners.

Looks like we will go ahead with a 3-day meet in January as usual. Still debating whether to request NRE status or not. I'm of the opinion it's not worth it as I doubt we'll get more than 5-10 people from out-of-state. Charlie B. thinks we should. Most of the club is pretty much don't care/doesn't matter.

Walking (Hiking) 2:30:00 [2] 6.0 mi (25:00 / mi)

Went to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park and hiked the 6 mile loop trail. Another beautiful day, sunny, clear blue sky and warm when walking. Hard to imagine 100,000 guys trying to kill each other here. Doing a pretty good job of it also. Also hard to imagine that running a half a mile across an open field and then half a mile climb up a ridge is the smartest tactic for attacking a well dug in army. Maybe that's why it didn't work?

Note

Out and back on the Silver Comet Trail. Started at mile zero. Rode with Pam and Duffy. It's a beautiful day again - sunny, clear, beautiful blue sky, and just a little bit cool. Went at a little bit more than a leisurely pace going out. Pushed it a bit coming back. Very enjoyable ride - just enough to wear me out.

Bicycling 1:20:00 [3] 20.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

Rode with Pam. Out and back on the Lower Roswell Rd, along the river ride. We skipped the hill up Eves Rd, Pam wasn't up fpr it. I little bit windy. Chilly when we started but after warming up it wasn't so bad. Another beautiful sunny day though.

Running (woods/trail running) 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Ran trails at the river. It was a beautiful day, sunny, clear and just cool enough to be crisp. Great running weather. Felt better running than I have in a looong time. Still slow going downhill. And it's really tough going uphill, I usually end up walking if it's more than 100m. But at least I can keep moving at a reasonable pace walking.
Not too many people running on the trails. There were more bikers than I usually see. Saw 2-3 guys working on the trails, clearing the deadfall after the storm last month and fixing some of the washed-out spots.

Bicycling 1:55:00 [3] 28.2 mi (4:05 / mi)

Out and back - Lower Roswell Rd, along the river and up Eves Rd. Beautiful blue sky and sunshine, but kind of windy today. Fortunately the ridge along the river protected the ride from most of the wind. Added the Martin Rd loop around Martin's Lake in each direction. Didn't particually push the riding, the wind and the hills were enough for a decent workout.

Stopped to help a woman who was sitting on the sidewalk and trying to flag me down. She had fallen while running, or walking, and wanted some attention. She was fine, just some scratches on her palms, and knee - that will probably be stiff tomorrow. Did have a very small scratch on the bridge of her nose which bled a little bit. Got her up and sent her on her way.
